Guys a quick question here

I hope you do realize that its not a drop in swap still for a mr2 tranny to solara/camry use
the middle housing has to be changed over to the camry/solara model because the shift levers face the other direction. If i were you, I would have gotten the camry/solara E153 tranny because its a drop in swap AND the gear ratios are a bit longer than the mr2 ones. You will be revving a little higher while going at a certain speed.

I took the liberty of calculating the RPM's and his engine would turn ~350 RPM more at 75 mph with the S53 than with the E153. That's about a 12% increase. I think that the effect on fuel economy is roughly linear at least let's assume so for a rough estimate. Given that my wife's car get's about 29 mpg on the highway, he would get about 25.5 mpg. Of course, this is all useless since he tabled the S53 a while ago.

So I calculated the difference in RPM for the MR2 E153 and the Solara E153 at 75 mph. It is about 250 RPM. That is a difference of about 9% or 26.4 mpg. Wow, you wouldn't think that 250 RPM would make that much difference.

I really dont care about MPG I just care to make my camry a 5speed since my AUT transmision is making my life miserable by sliping a lot and I would not repair it again thats why I want to do the swap

I'm sure that you or a mechanic can figure out the shift linkages, as ppl have done it before, and again, we don't know how hard it may or may not be to find a tranny in PR- I know that in Canada, it was hell to find a good condition solara/camry tranny locally. I ended up driving about 2 hours to a junkyard to find it, and it was 800bucks for a tranny with 90K kilometers on it (so, about 50K miles). In the states, they're everywhere and almost half that price.

as for the gearing- yeah, that was given that the rpms would be higher with the gear ratios between the trannys. As for gas mileage, I wouldn't think that it'll be a huge difference, since personally, I think that the e153 5th gear with the final gear ratio wasn't the best design for gas mileage either.

on the highway, after the swap, I get the same gas mileage as I did with my auto because the auto spun about 400-500rpms lower at my cruising speed (140kph or around 88mph) at approx 3000rpms. with the 5speed, it's at about 3400-3500. but gas mileage is the same because there is a lot less load on the with the 5speed. in town though, the 5speed def gets better gas mileage

I would do my best forcing the guy to try to get me a camry or solara tranny but I may finish empty handed waiting for one

I spent a while trying to find the site where they did the linkage conversion and couldn't find it. Sorry, man. Maybe I was even thinking of the reverse conversion where someone put the front wheel drive transmission in the MR2. I don't know anymore.

I'm not sure I agree with the E153 being so plentiful here in the United States. Manual transmission Solaras and Camrys are pretty uncommon, but if you look long enough, then you should find the transmission you are looking for.

Good luck.

you can always try messaging mr2 people who are using E53 gears in their E153 transaxle casing. because all we do are just GUT them and junk the casings which is what you guys really need hehe
