Am I missing the tech info?

I was hoping to see something on this site a little more technical. . . specifically:

What are the differences in the 1mz, 3mz? Will the 3mz fit in place of 1mz? I gather it will. . . but should it (drive by wire)? Is the 3mz lighter? Heavier? Wiring diagrams. That sort of thing.

I'm looking to drop a 1mzfe into my 1988 Corolla GTS. I want to take it out of a wrecked car but sometimes I find a newer model that's wrecked in a "good" way and I think. . . hmmmm 3.3 liters, but I'm not sure if it would fit or not.

Over on some of the MR2 sites, they seem to think that the 3.3 liter would not be a good idea anyway because the drive by wire is calibrated for economy, not speed. At the same time, I'm thinking that it may be a wash since it has more horsepower/torque anyway and I'm getting such a big gain from upgrading to a V6, a little economy sounds good.

Comments?

Thanks for the post. It didn't quite cover everything, but every bit helps.

"the drive by wire is calibrated for economy, not speed"

Right - for the new 2012 CAFE standard, where fuel mileage at full throttle is tested.

The speaker has no idea what he's talking about.

What do you mean by "the speaker has no idea what he's talking about?" You mean in the post the victorylibrary post?
