"Re-badging" idea.

"Re-badging" idea.

Ok, maybe this has been done before, in which case you can tell me how it looks.

I was removing all of the badges/decals from my 04 solara today.

I was going to remove the "toyota" emblem in the center of the trunk, but the trunk is shaped with a circle for the emblem, so i figured having nothing there would look pretty bad.

So, I had this idea.

What if I were to take the "Solara" logo, right below the toyota logo, and with a cut and sand make it this:

Image
And put that in the circle molding? It looks like it should just fit, and if it doesn't, I can always trim that good inch of tail off of the last "a."

How do you guys think this will look? I'll probably do it and I'll make sure to post pics.

In my noggin it looks really good, and is likely to look super-clean with a fully de-badged back of the car.

Just to clarify: I'm thinking of putting the "lara" part of the "solara" text emblem in the oval molding where the toyota symbol currently is.

I came in this thread fully expecting someone to ask about the Lexus emblem fitting in the round spot...

Kudos for thinking outside of the box...

I guess this would only work if you always call your car "Lara"...

I haven't decided yet, i need some damage fixed so Ill probably just ask the guy to bondo of jb weld it. What's normally done? And can water get into my trunk interior from the holes?

hahaha...i knew it. I almost put a line at the top of the post: "Note: I am not thinking of doing something as stupid as putting a lexus emblem on my solara." but i deleted it so i wouldn't offend anyone who may of done that (may God have mercy on their souls)

I don't really call it by lara or solara. I call it my car, haha.

Somewhat like this pic I found several years back?

Leaving the holes open would definitely let water in. If you're already paying for body work, I'd have the shop fill in the holes along with the cut-out in the spoiler.

Cutout in the spoiler? What exactly are you talking about?

And, sense this body work is in the distant future, likely, what should I do until then? I'm finding it a little silly that the decal was providing a water-tight seal. :/

I can fill it in myself with jb weld but the paint is the problem.

There's a space in the bottom of the spoiler where it molds around the emblem.

The cut-out I'm referring to is the half-circle indent in the spoiler that the toyota emblems runs into. If you're going to temporarily fill in the holes left behind from the emblem, I'd use bondo. JB weld might crack.

Yeah...funny story about medal of honor...my friend won it in a halo tournament at my university. His computer wasn't uber enough to play it so he just gave it to me, then i teased him for entering, and actually winning, said halo tournament.

And yeah, i'll definiately have the pictures when it's all done, but it's going to have to wait until I get my bumper damage fixed, because I'll get all the holes and crap the badges leave behind filled and painted over when they fix everything else.

Plus i have some pretty bad damage to the lower part of the front bumper. The guy who owned the car before me apparently hit a very 'robust' possum. Depending on how much it all costs it may be a while before I'll have finished pictures of this project.
