Traction Control Question .... opinions please

Traction Control Question .... opinions please

Postby MetrowestLara » Fri Nov 07, 2008 8:52 am

I just noticed that me traction control switch doesn't appear to be working and I was wondering if that means my traction control isn't working. When I turn the key in the ignition I do get the traction control light and trac off light to come on. They go off in a few seconds as they are supposed to. So I don't think it's an issue with the lamps not working. I checked my owners manual for a possible fuse issue but didn't see a circuit specifically for the traction control. The fuses where traction control is mentioned are also fuses for other guages and instruments and those are all wokring. Has anybody had this issue before? If you did what was the issue or am I worrying about nothing? Is there a dedicated fuse for the traction control? By the way I have Gen 1 Solara, 6 cylc SLE.

I dont know where the fuse could be but here's an inexpensive way, yet stupid way of finding out if your traction control works:

Peel out and if your traction control kicks in, then its working and vice versa. If you dont have enough power to make the wheels spin, do it on a slippery surface (or a rainy day). I wouldn't recommend pulling the hand brake up and accelerating but thats another way. Good luck and hopefully someone could give a smarter answer. :drinking:

Well looks like the TC is working OK. It was raining up my way and tried a quick get away and the taction control kicked in. This leaves me to believe I have a bad switch or a wire is come loose. Anyone know how to remove the cetner console? I hate having things in my car that should be working but aren't.

I think it's a pita, how can I disable it? The only way I can think of is by replacing the ecu. Any other ideas?

If TC is working fine, why do u wanna remove it ? just ignore the censor-light, this happened to some of Solara99-00 SLE v6, i used to drove a 99Solara SLE V6 for couple years, yes i got anoying censor lights like you, i brought to Toyota dealer, they said nothin wrong just the censor problem and no need to worry, but keep the TC mode on it helps the car steady when in WET or SNOW and Slippery, there are some normal situations while driving a Solara, when you makin a hard turns left/right, usually when in underground parkin you'll hear the wreck-wreck weird sound, i wasnt sure but one of my machanic friend says, Solara 99-21 are like that, he checked and nothin wrong. I think ! maybe the ABS and Traction Control.....

And Traction Control is available on all SLE V6 solara.
