Stock talk about the Generation 1 and 1.5 Toyota Solara which were produced from 1999 to 2003.

Is this combonation possible?

I am wondering.

Can you get a Solara convertible with the V6 and the 5spd manual? If so, whats years and trims?

thanks.

Nope. You'll have to get a V6 convertible and do a tranny swap, like what I'm planning on for mine.

all convertibles are SLE's.

all SLE's are automatics.

5spd was only offered in the SE trim.

I think thats right?

damn. I have to have a manual, and I have to have a convertible. I feel caged in and out of control driving my car lately.

Damn BMW 330i convertible got my hooked on convertibles now. I'm spoiled.

Yea it absolutely sucks that they didnt make the convertible with a 5spd. I'd love to do a swap, but I dont know of anyone who would be capable of doing it....and I'd need a list of all the parts necessary to complete the job.

a few guys including GregTRD have done it before and can probably brief you on how its done. Its not simple though... :-?

i had been looking into a tranny swap lately (since i slaughtered my slushbox)

man, it's a handful and a half.

remember, you have to hunt down manual tranny axles

get a shift box

cables

ecu

pedal assembly

TRANNY MOUNT (yeah, it's not the same as the auto's)

oh yeah, and the transmission.

plus i'm probably forgetting a few parts that are needed.

when i talked to my tranny guy he quoted me 5 grand to do a manual swap.

that was just a ballpark figure too, i'd want to have another grand handy in case unexpected expenses came up.

check it out, it has a couple good links in there to give an idea of what's involved in a manual swap.

Wow that seems very costly.....it almost makes more sense to find a manual SE with higher mileage on it...and use it as a parts car for the swap.

TLMNICK - yeah, that seemed to be the best way to go about a swap. unfortunately the only solara in a local junk yard was an auto (but the upside was that i lifted the tranny off it with only 67k miles on it for CHEAP).

but finding a parts car is key to preventing headaches.

Yeah a manny swapped drop top is nice, but too costly. For that kind of money you could easily pick up a used Mustang, or Eclipse...(Which are drop top manual cars)

Gated stick shifts are a dying breed! In fact they're so far gone I'd be shocked you can find one in a junk yard, let alone a Solara type. BMW's got this confusing i-drive, other sport cars have automatics that give faster times than their manuals and everybody else is putting in the "cop-out" sport shift automatics that I have in my Solara. On top of that, the rare car manufacturers that do offer a gated stick shift want you to pay a premium.
