I just got an '00 Solara SLE V6. First car. I need any tip that you can give. What type of oil do I use to change the oil? (Guides if available would be nice) What kind of gas do I use? Regular? Pre? Eh? ... Anything I should keep an eye on? It's currently running on 65k miles, and I'm going to drive it a lot to commute to school and maybe drive in the city of Philadephia... :-/ I've had mixed gpm between 17 and 19 for the city... when researching about this car.. can anyone confirm how bad is it for the city? But yeah... any tips would be nice!

well here you go(cracking knuckles outwards now).....
1. Your car does not have many miles so I suggest mobil 15-w30 oil every 3500 miles.
2. change out air filter to like a k&n or an hks drop in,
3. 93octane gas at altimes and not those cheap gas stations, the good ones like shell and exxon stuff
4. I would do a seafoam system clean out throughout your entire car. search it and you will sea how to do it in tutorials.
5. Oil catch can after you do sea foam
6. change sparks to like iridium plugs and ngk spark wires there cheap.
7. check tire pressure every two weeks
8. please check tranny fluid i just got my tranny replaced due to bad oil trust me 30bucks now is better than 1500 bucks later
9.YOu have the best car ever so when you want to do mods to your ride never cheap out it will bite you in the a55.
10. you should have a well run car after all that. Congrats and good luck

Nice tutorial rewmomi, but no offense, I think people buy Toyota's because they are relatively easy to take care off. Korr realistically only have to do half of things you listed.

Oil change and air filter is good enough. 93 octane? You can't even get that stuff in most parts of California. The compression ratio for a 1mz-fe is 9.4:1, not that high. It can run fine on 89 fuel.

Oil catch can? Are you serious? I'm sure his engine will last to 150k and beyond without that. Mine did =D

Use common sense Korr, regular oil changes. Keep on schedule with your other fluids. Timing belt change at 90k-100k. Your engine is built strong, you don't have to worry.

^^^I kno mate just helping for future instances. oilcatch can help keep engine gunk out out of the plenum it was not a nesseccity just an option to keep your car running beutifuly. And if you read your manual it does suggest using a 93 octane gasoline. I listed the other engine tune up options because he does not know what the owner may have done before hand or if the engine is in good condition. I thought it be better for him to tune it up and have no worries. I also used my personal experiences. I just got a tranny swap and man I could have avoided it by changing the fluid. Since he is young I thought he would be heavy on the foot like me occasionally. I also have a solara at close to 170k and I know my engine is built and taken care of because it runs great just wanted korr to have the same satisfaction I have knowing his car is in tip top shape.
******** Also dont forget the steerign wheel fluid every 2 years karr, and your master cylander fluid.

1. Why would u use 15-w30
2. yes u can get one of those filters
3. there is no need for 93 octane on a NA 1mz. 87 - 89 will do just fine.
4. yes, do seafoam if u can
5. Oil Catch can is good, but u really really dont "need" it, but if u have extra $ to spend, then its a good mod.
6. Stay with OEM spark plugs/wires
7. yep.
8. Most definitly, get that fluid changed.
