Positive camber with coilovers

Positive camber with coilovers

Postby thealkimo » Mon Oct 20, 2008 6:38 pm

I just had coilovers installed but my rear wheels now have 1.6 degrees of positive camber even at the full negative setting on the coilover. The shop ordered a camber kit, but that will probably only push it a degree. Any ideas what I can do to solve this problem?

^ don't you mean a more aggressive drop? the more aggressive drop, the more negative camber there usually is

see what the camber kit can do first, and then go from there...but I have no idea...hopefully somebody out there would

What c/o do you have ? I have a decent drop with the 225/40/18 +37 offset and don't have positive camber on the rear.

I believe it has something to do with the way u install it.

sometimes when u re-install them, they go in off spec, so ur camber would be off. Typically its positive camber, but majoity of camber/toe/etc is based off installation and such.

Just from the eye, can u see the positive camber? Just hope its not a crappy machine.

Ive been stumped as well guys... he bought my old coilovers and I didnt have an issue like this. I ran some positive with them on the stock setting, but when I put them to full negative it was fine. I am really stumped as well, no idea what it could be...

hmmm....is the problem the same for both sides?

and I find that really strange as well...do you have damon's old jics, or ksports? with my ksports, I can get both extreme negative camber or extreme positive camber.

The k-sports...yeah it's weird they measured both sides at +1.6. I left the car at the shop again because it looked like it was going to hit the rear fender over each bump it sticks out so much.

Is it possible to mount the strut incorrectly to the sway bar end links?

not really...even if you switch the left and the right hand sides, the pillowmounts should be able to move to the angle needed for the opposite side. then you should only have to deal with the bracket on the strut housing that holds the swaybar link in place...and that can easily be solved by just rotating the housing itself.

That is a very strange situation that you are in....I suppose though, if you have time, to swap the left and the right rears and see if it makes a difference?

The shop didn't have time to swap rear sides, but I guess the camber kit helped a bit. My rear wheels are now +.4 at driver side and +.6 passenger side. The +.4 is hard to tell, but the +.6 is definitely noticeable. I'm going to need another shop to look at this I guess...

The holes were the ksprts mount to your hub are slotted... are you sure they tightened them up correctly? Jack the car up, loosen them up, and re-tighten pushing the coilover inward.....

There should be no need of a camber kit.. I had gotten 2.5 degrees of negative camber off the ksports and that was before messing with the mounts.

Good Luck Alex!!
