'99 V6 SE Solara 5spd (Motor Swap or Rebuild)

First and foremost, I used the "Search" link and had no luck. My motor is still in good condition with 132,000+ miles, this if for future reference, in case I keep her in the long run. I was hoping if anyone knew the total cost of a used low mileage swap or how much a rebuild would be? I'm Long Beach, CA, so SoCal shops would be preferred. Thanks in advance.

for what, the engine, the tranny, what?

if the motor is still in good condition why would you wanna rebuilt or replace it?

btw, it would help to know if you have a I4/V6, as this would probably be the big portion of the cost on the swap.

rebuild prices would be relative to your shop and region

if you're talking about an I4 -> V6 swap, then it's gonna cost a pretty penny, since you're going to have to change out many other parts in addition ot the engine.

just so you know though, the 1MZ-FE (V6) is a solid MF'n block. they have been known to last upto (and beyond) 200k miles, without problems (if maintenance is done properly). so just take care of your block, and you shouldn't need a rebuild or a swap for another few years.

and if you want more specific answers, then you're gonna have to include engine type/code.

Thanks for the info bro. Actually, I put the motor type in my subject line, but it's a '99 V6 SE 5spd (1MZ-FE). My car has always been to the dealer for maintenance and I've kept up with 'em. The car is in good condition, but just wondering for future reference is all. So, it looks like a rebuild sounds pricey for the V6. How about just a used low mileage swap? My tranny seems to be fine right now. Also, have you used Seafoam? And, do you suggest synthetic versus standard Toyota oil? Thanks.

if you want a low milage 1MZ look on ebay for the companies that import them from japan. These have like 30-40k miles on them. I wouldnt worry about your motor. It sounds like you are taking very good care of it. Mine has almost 160k and still runs like new. and yes I suggest mobil 1 5w-30.

^^^x2 on the synthetic oil.

If my memory serves me well from when JoeB and I talked, i think he paid a little over 10k for his rebuild of his 1mz, but keep in mind he upgraded everything to run higher boost, etc. If your keeping the engine stock and still want to keep the car, getting a used low mileage one is the route to go I'd say.

labor is almost always gonna be more expensive than parts so just like Akfahad said a replacement would be the way to go. and there's always the possibility of doing some work on your new low mileage motor before you put it in. getting a low mileage tranny would be a good idea as well while you at it.

Thanks everyone for all your suggestions and tips! I plan to keep this car as my DD, so when the time comes, a used low mileage swap will make more sense. My car is only lowered on Eibach Pro Kit w/KYBs on 18'' wheels, Injen intake and a system. I think the Solara is a perfect example of a comfortable/sporty DD. Thanks again!
