Oval tip TRD muffler?

Oval tip TRD muffler?

Postby CosmicGrooves » Mon Oct 06, 2008 6:29 pm

I had a dream last night that I got a TRD muffler. In that dream, i also got the TRD lowering springs and a TRD cam shaft!!! If only the cam shaft part was real.

Anyways, I'm thinking about going to get my TRD exahust. I guess I have to go to the dealer to get the oval tip version that has the letters "TRD" on the top. All the ones I've seen purchased somewhere other than the dealership, has the TRD letters on the side.

If I remember correctly, they're like $400 bucks?

I am trying to find the thread, but there was mention about two different TRD mufflers for our cars. One has TRD on the side, and on has TRD on the top.

Whew... didn't think I'd ever find this resource, but I did.

Here is the original thread. It discusses the two versions of muffler.

Sorry, I missed this thread. I could have answered this a long time ago. I had this discussion with the development guys at TRD a year and a half ago.

TRD had a couple versions of the Gen2 tip.

Version 1 is a round tip with the logo on the sides.
Version 2 is an oval tip with the logo on the top.

There is quite a bit of inventory floating around so it's possible to still end up with the older version when you order.

The Camry TRD muffler in the beginning of the thread is also a TRD muffler. The decorative tip slipped over the exhaust pipe is intentional. Having a small air gap between the polished tip and the exhaust pipe acts as a heat insulator. (Less heat discoloration of the tip.)

I just need to go up to the parts department and discuss this.

I'm glad PhreakdOut had just the tips for sale back in the day. I had purchased one for my gurls Lara from a member on here that bought from him. 8) Now I was able to put a custom exhaust & TRD tip that fills in the gap quite nicely.

the one with the TRD on top (like i have) is much nicer i think
there isn't an inner piping at the tip so it looks cleaner....
although my tip gets a bit dirty after a couple days
