fog lights illegal in the city?

Postby mazen222 » Mon Oct 06, 2008 8:22 pm

Today i installed my 3000k fogs, im in the Timhortons drive through and this police car passes next to me and stops... the police officer then says "you know fog lights are illegal in the city?" Im like what? why? "becasue the blind the other driver"
Wtf... fogs are aimed on the ground... i told him so but he said its the law... he didnt give me a ticket or anything. But i was shocked since i installed them today!

anyways... i turned them off and when i left, back on! they are amazing, they light the road much much more than the 6000k i have on my headlights... big difference, so they stay on :P

Fogs aren't illegal, if they were, automakers wouldn't install them on their cars.

It is just a jerk trying to give you a hard time.

If you can run your fogs without having to use your headlights then you should step outside and try to see it from another driver's point of view.

I have actually heard that as well...in Nebraska it is supposedly illegal to run the fogs when it isnt necessary (clear conditions). Someone should check into this.

You were in Montreal when this happened? If so the only law I could find for BC is stated here, on Auxilary and Fog lights. Hope this helps.

B.C. - Auxiliary driving lamps
4.09 (1) A motor vehicle may be equipped with 2 auxiliary driving lamps, mounted on the front of the vehicle at a height of not less than 40 cm and not more than 1.06 m, that are capable of displaying only white light.
(2) An auxiliary driving lamp must be directed so that the high intensity portion of the beam is, at a distance of 8 m from the lamp, at least 12 cm below the height of the lamp and, at a distance of 25 m from the lamp, not higher than 1.06 m from the road surface.
(3) An auxiliary driving lamp must operate so that it is illuminated only when the upper beam of a multiple beam headlamp is illuminated.

Fog lamps
4.11 (1) A motor vehicle may be equipped with 2 fog lamps, mounted on the front of the vehicle below the headlamps, that are capable of displaying only white or amber light.

(2) Each fog lamp must be

(a) mounted not more than 30 cm below the headlamps, and

(b) adjusted and aimed so that, at a distance of 8 m from the lamp, the centre of the beam is at least 10 cm below the height of the fog lamp.

(3) The fog lamp wiring and switch must permit simultaneous operation of the parking lamps, tail lamps, licence plate lamp and, if required, clearance lamps.

(4) The operator of a vehicle may use fog lamps instead of headlamps when atmospheric conditions make the use of headlamps disadvantageous.

Bored Cop: \Bord Kop\ noun\ {syn: po-po, 5-0, pig, oh sh*t, Officer Nice, Mr. Nitestik, offisahhh, occifer}: 1) lazy officer of the law in an urban setting that avoids interacting and/or dettering daily criminal activity (statement ex: "Dat bored cop axxidently rolled up on a dead body by axxident dat had a bullethole in his back, he wrote it up as a suicside"); 2) an officer of the law with poor social skills in a suburban setting wherein criminal activity is boringly low whereby said officer amplifies a non-criminal situation to provoke detainee(s) into a criminal situation (ex: Putting under arrest his/her own partner for littering due to said partner getting out of the police zone car to brush donut crumbs off of his/her uniform); 3) an officer of the law that dutifully knows every law ever written by his government and finds cause to detain people for no other reason but to orally recite said laws to feel important due to strong emotional undertones of decreased self-worth but will not arrest, write a citation or note any infraction (statement ex: "I pulled over a Black gentlemen in a Solara doing 110mph over the US border from Canada who had 10 cases of Crown Royal, a crate of illegal fireworks and a wad of singles, I told him it was illegal to come back over the Canadian border into the U.S. without declaring the extra 38 bottles, I lectured him for about an hour about that law to make sure he won't do that again.)

traffic laws vary by state. check your state laws to see if you have a wacky law like that.

Dang...
And I thought I had it bad when I got pulled
and the cop says
" I pulled you over cause you got a modified vehicle. Thats illegal "

LOL
He later pinpointed it was my "illegally modified exhaust"

Must be a Quebec thing because I've never heard of it here...

The only time I've seen/heard any problems with fogs is with after-market aux lights on a truck - which understandably, some 10,000K Hellas CAN blind you! ;)

Over here they just pull over people randomly with HIDs to check if they were stolen off of higher end cars. (Like a Honda Civic with HIDs)....

But I guess in Montreal the cops are just being dicks, Print out a copy of law Pogs posted, and keep it in the car. That's all I'ma say about Montreal Law Enforcement :) I've been arrested there before. :x :bad-words:
