so here's my dilemma. i'm ready to drop the big money on some new shoes for my car however the price difference in 17's and 18's of the ones i'm looking at is like 220 bucks...

my question is does anybody on here have 17's with 50 sidewall tires? if so how does it look? is it too much tire? all pics are appreciated. thanks!

50 series sidewalls on 17s is not a good look. If feasible, go with the 18s.

if you want to know what a 50 series will look like, just find a stock maxima and envision the rims on a solara. stock maxima's run 225/50/17's.

My opinion, 17's are just too small for how big the solara is. I have 18's and I think I should've done 19's.

i just went from 235-45-18, aftermarket rims, to 215-50-17 on stock es 350 rims, the price of the low pro tires can get expensive considering their not very economical.

Go for 18"s trust me. You will regret getting the 17's cause they are way too small for the size of the solara. There will be lots of fender gap and would look weak. Try looking at craigslist.com if you are looking for used wheels.

18's or 19's are the best looking. I would only get 17's if the streets are that terrible.

$220? If you go with 17's, you'll torture youself everytime you look at the car saying, why am I such a cheap bastard?

I had the same problem when deciding on what wheels to get for my Camry. I went with 18s and was glad I did. They look much more aggressive than 17s, especially if you plan to lower your car later on (or if you are already lowered). I am using 215/45/18 tires but you can use 225/40/18 and the ride will still be comfortable if you get a high quality brand.

18s look better, but really light weight 18s are hard to find...or let me rephrase that...they're expensive lol.

I traded in my 25lbs 18" 5zigens that looked hot for my 17" 18lbs enkeis which look pretty decent and there's no way I can go back purely on a performance sense

The 18s are now on my sister' solara, and I took it to the track.....those wheels are NOT made to go tracking in lol. especially not on a heavyass sle on only 4psi of boost haha
