Need an Alternator for an 03 4cyl

Postby shemskitten » Thu Oct 02, 2008 7:57 pm

If anyone is selling parts I am looking for an altenator for an 03 4cyl solara.
Right now I can can get the car to run but only when I am stepping on the gas. When I hit the brake it is having a hard time staying on. Tried fuel injector and replaced brake booster, spark plugs, pc valve lines. Sears says it is the alternator due to loose battery plug.

If any one has one or can suggest a great site to purchase one from please let me know.

Thanks I would hate to part with my baby

the terminal on the battery post was loose heope that clarifies 8) so instead of the car running of the battery it is running off the alternator

1st off, that makes no sense.

2nd, NEVER go to sears. And I say that from both 1st hand experience, AND many people I know. The problem you described does not even remotely sound like an Alternator. When an Alt goes bad, it either:

1: Puts out too much voltage and blows crap (much less common)
2: Puts out nothing, and your battery dies. When that happen, your car won't start, and won't run, EVEN with a jumpstart.

Do you have a Check Engine Light on?

sounds like your battery or something in between the battery and your car

if there was something wrong with your alternator and it doesn't charge your battery, your battery light will come on to tell you that there's something wrong with the charging system

the only way that you can even "run the car off the alternator" is by having the current go through your battery first

the battery light has been on along with the engine light.
The battery is getting a charge because the post are on there but one of them was loose, it has been tightened.

one way you can test your alternator from what i learned was that you can run a car with just your alternator.

alternator test-You can start your car then remove your battery lines. or remove it and bring it to kragen or something. Kragen is free hear

Battery test- You can take it to kragen to test it and charge it for free. I kno they put it on a load test to see if they hold charge or put out enough cranking amps.

I agree....NEVER go to Sears.....their mechanics are dipshits. Can't even clean up the oil they spilled on the exhaust manifold on my g/f's car.

yeah....could be your alternator is going bad....
