i see that some solara owners only will use toyota products, even when it comes to tune ups, is there a major difference between a aftermarket oil filetr and a toyota one? toyota dealer battery as oppossed to a regualr one from autoaone? or are you guys just being to anal when it comes to the car? lol. someone explain to me please.

Some product quality sucks compare to oem. While some Oem=in quality to aftermarket. Toyota built their stuff around their products. Like their motors like the Toyota red coolant because our motors seals and products works best to it. While batteries you can buy a red top or yellow top and it will out performs the stock oem brand battery. It really just depends on what you get..

Timing belt people keep saying to get oem but they do not realize gates make most of their belts.

Personally, I tend to value an OEM product b/c there's no question it's suitable to the quality of the car. There are exceptions, but generally toyota's products are good stuff. It's definitely overpriced, but discounts can help with that if you know the right people.

Toyota's battery is very good, not only in cranking power but durability. The 87-month warranty is worth the extra $10 over an autozone battery IMO.

for stuff like filters (besides the fuel filter) brake pads, rotors and shocks and struts, serpentine belts or most other maintenance items i'm fine with aftermarket. anything engine related i go oem though (timing belts, engine seals usually etc.)

for oil filters, they have a bypass valve which reduces wear and tear
during the morning start.

also for the price online, its cheaper than the frams and such in the stores.

personally, if im not looking for performance and have the money i stick with oem stuff. after all, the parts are designed for that specific application only. unlike aftermarket stuff which can be used over several different cars.
Alpine + Dynaudio = Sonic bliss.

if you want to save money, you're right, buy fram. if you have a couple extra dollars and want to make sure you get the best for your car, then buy a toyota brand/mobil 1/k&n, or whatever you so choose.
