5-speed upgrades

Okay, so I have the TWM short shifter, but I heard it is wise to also get the shifter cable bushing kit from Speed Source. I was checking out their website and I saw they also offer a shifter base bushing kit and an extended clutch slave cylinder pushrod for our 5-speeds. Are these good investments, or unnecessary? What improvements would I see with these? Thanks!

Shifter cable bushings remove unwanted flex from your car's shifter cables, the slave cylinder push rods increase range of clutch travel for enhanced pedal modulation and engagement.

the shifter bushings will allow you to feel every gate for more precise shifting...it's got its good and bad points...great feeling and great connection with the car, but also makes it a decent bit harder to shift and it'll take more effort and preceision

the shifter base bushings also allow for a crisper and more in touch feel

it's one of those either you're really going to like the feel and the connection....or you're really going to hate the amount of effort that it can take to shift

as for the pushrod....I personally felt absolutely no difference after installing mine....I have a SPEC stage 3 clutch. I thought it would help a bit...but felt exactly the same to me...

I think it does...search a bit and I think you'll land some good info.

As for the bushings, they make the whole shift feeling a bit stiffer...some like it, some don't, since you don't have as much slack while shifting (we get used to it).

the mr2 e153 works on our cars as well, but their gearing is shorter and designed for the powerband of the 3sgte, so it's not the most efficient match for our engines....unless you want to track a lot or autocross

I just asked because I thinks is easier to get that transmission rather that the E153 from a Camry. Because soon I will be doing aut to 5speed swap :D

actually...it's no easier at all...at least not in north america. they're both not the easiest things to find.

not sure about in puerto rico though. over there, you may have to settle for whatever you can find.
