Problems with suspensions top plates?

Problems with suspensions top plates?

Postby mazen222 » Sun Sep 21, 2008 7:41 am

My suspensions (espacially front right) make an annoying noise, which cannot be heared if put I a litle bit of music of if there's traffic. I had my suspensions inspected by at least 3 mechanics and all of them told that my syspensions had absolutely no problemo.

The only suspension component which is left in my mind is the top plate, which cannot be inspected visually without unmounting many other things.

How many of you had to change this part? either front or back

hmm... thats hard to describe... even the smallest bumps on the road causes it. it does not sound like a metal to metal... kind of like hard plastic on metal and goes like dirg (on the bump) drag (when i go down from the bump)... like something is loose , but nothing is... checked so many times. What else can it be?

Strut mounts perhaps? They do tend to go bad in time.

For the most part, only the front mounts go bad. The rears don't have bearings so they usually hold up unless the rubber somehow goes bad. My guess is the bearings and/or insulators up front are shot.

They aren't pictured, but I would ask the seller since the other mounts listed on their page show the bearings and mount. The bearings sit in that top circular recess in the middle of the mount.

sorry i will re-ask my question more clearly.

Should I buy the ones with the bearings or without?

the ones i posted do not include the bearings, but another set on there does. Which one should i get?

And im also wondering... should I inspect them first or just go ahead and replace them? the inspection will cost $$ for nothing... since most of u guys had problems with these and all other aspects of my suspensions are good... im thinking of just chaning them without inspecting them first.

What u guys think?

Personally, I would replace the bearings. Mine weren't even knocking when I lowered my car, but I swapped them out anyways to save any hassles that might arise in the future.

I would also inspect the top and bottom rubber insulators that the springs rest on. If they look shot, replace those as well. The rest of the unit is metal, so it's highly unlikely that they are defective. I would go for the inspection if it's free, but the bearings aren't visible unless the shock and spring assembly is apart.

I'll shut up now!
