I have to give Damon credit. He is handling this much better than I would. I saw him today and his hair had neither turned grey nor fallen out - he also appeared to have been able to sleep last night.

If it were me, I know I would not be as cool and calm as him.

Been in Vegas for the past 3 days, didn't think I'd come back to SG and see this.

Glad you're okay. Sorry about your Solara, she was very beautiful.

What the hell... Ive been gone all weekend and then come back on here posting on your engagement thread to find out how it went and then I find this thread about your tragedy. Im glad your doing ok. It really hurts to see your car in this condition especially after meeting you and seeing it last weekend. I really hope its not totaled.

But I have to agree with Brian on this quote because I'm actually currently experiencing what he as mentioned...

PhreakdOut wrote:You do need to strip parts off ASAFP. Here's the catch, they will total your car with the parts but the claim won't compensate you for them. You pay insurance on the book value of the car. You add $7K in value between paint, kit, wheels and supercharger but your rates never adjusted for the value increasing. Thus they won't pay. It looks like you were able to drive it away instead of towing? Hold off on having the adjuster look at it till Tuesday. Get the parts off this weekend. Even if you strip it to barely running condition, they can tow it off. Once the insurance has a hold on the car, it will be impossible to get parts off it. Bye-bye Volks and you aren't paid for em.

I hope you can get something else in it's place. Alicia would want that. You have a passion for cars and really can't just put that on hold. She would not want you to resent her for giving up on your hobby.

I think you should consider looking for another ride that is a project already in progress. Perhaps something classic that has a huge aftermarket. Don't give up and let that fire in your soul die. It will stress your relationship and one day you will resent for it. Talk it over with Alicia and setup a plan to get X-car in 5 years. Setup a savings plan just for that car. Yes, save for the house but this money over here is for your future project car.

I wish you the best of luck. If there is anything I can do to help you, please call on me.

I did type out this long response giving an exact example whats been going on with me and how this relates to the same situation Brian has said above, but I feel its too personal to post on the internet for the whole world to see. So I took it to your PM Damon. I hope it helps. But for the rest of you SG members pretty much to summarize what I sent Damon is that my fiancee does not like how much money I spend on my car and Ive made the sacrifice of not to mod my car anymore. I have started to resent her for it which has cause tremendous stress in our relationship. We have worked it out and I will be opening a separate savings for a new car. (Dont worry SG members I wont be selling my car. As much as I love it, it will stay as is and I will be getting a RWD, AWD, or 4x4 once I can figure out what it is I exactly want)

One thing I have to add that I mentioned to Damon is that I always think I rather have a beautiful girl I want to spend the rest of my life with riding beside me in the passenger seat rather than having that awesome car with that seat empty. People come first, but don't give up your car dream completely, it will just be a little more work and time to get your new car there. But since I can't say Ive already been that far yet I hope it will be worth it in the end!

Id say pull as much as you can off your before the insurance gets the car. I remember a conversation with you last weekend about how we never see to many Gen 1 convertibles modified. Now is your chance! Brian is on a role! Regardless what you get I hope we still hang out and go to Elmhurst again! If a Solara is not the car for you Toyota has plenty to offer still... Supra, IS300, SC300, MR2!
