Gen 1 headlight output

I just did a set of 6000K HIDs in my car today, and i was very disapointed in the output. I found it to be very spotty and strange looking. The light was all over the place. Am I the only one, or has anyone else experienced this. Is there a remedy (besides a retrofit)?

Not really.
Retro is a way to go, if you want the best output.

I didnt think straight HIDs would look so bad...In my maxima they looked half decent. The light was still scattered everywhere, but at least it was done evenly. With these Gen1 lights, theres lines, and spots all over the road. Almost makes me wanna put the Halogens back in.

gen 1 solara black ebay headlights with 8000k hid kit

the worst beam pattern in the world

gen 1 solara factory headlight with 8000k hid kit, aimed higher
( this caused incredible blinding glare from my headlights but from my end the hotspots were softened and the light output somewhat more even )

Infiniti FX35 Projector retro with stock 4300k bulbs
Switching to 6000k makes an even bigger diff
my next step is 50watt HID on headlights

The spotty output is just something you either learn to live with from gen1 headlights or hate so much you give in and get a retro.

Somebody can post pics of HID with OEM headlights? Like the light pattern on a wall and on the road.

Do the FX projectors fit nicely inside the Gen1 housing? I have a set of those already and i'll do the retrofit if they do. I know that 1.5 gens have different housings.

yes
im running it in my gen 1 although i had the retro done by a company for me
from what i hear its not too difficult if youve had experience with lighting
heres a pic of them in my headlight

One thing youll need to do if you do the retro is form some sort of bezel or cover to go around the base of the projector, the one i had done covers up pretty much the whole back wall of the housing.

+ I couldnt find a pic of the headlight disassembled but I rummaged through a few old threads on here with pics and miraculously found a pic that was left over on an old thread. Here is a pic of the headlight housing with projecter in, the ABS Bezel that covers up all the work on the back wall of the housing, and lens. The ABS bezel had not been chromed yet at this point....

To tell you the truth the projector retro made the biggest difference of any mod I've done. The cut off on the freeway goes out 2 lanes on each side and visibility is insanely good. Its worth it to save up and get it done.

Thanks for the pics guys...I think I might try it out. I did a retrofit in my Maxima over the winter and it turned out ok. I just wouldnt wanna screw up my housings on my Gen1

And who did you get to do yours?

I'm also thinking about going with a projector.

A lot of trimming has to be done to the FX projectors to make them fit in the gen 1 housings, but they are probably the best bi-xenon fit due to their small size.

Really and I thought mine were bad! lol Have you cleaned up you're Headlamps? I Wet sanded mine and Plastic X them so they look like new again! Cleaning them up made a WORLD of a difference! I'm still not happy with the light output so I will prob be looking into a retro very soon!
