^ ;)

and to the OP's problem....the whining noise is most likely your release bearing, while the first gear shudder is most likely the first gear in your tranny going out...

as most are saying...easiest way to deal with the problem- get a new tranny

I say JDM b/c it was shipped over from Japan, it came out of a car over there with a 1mzfe transmission with 45k miles on it. I dunno if the Avalon, Camry, and Solara 1mzfe transmissions were built either in the U.S. or Japan, thats why I said JDM.

r0w wrote:I have some thing similar to you're problem but its only when the car is cold, when i take off from first some times the engine shutters a bite but i think its cause of the fact that I am not giving enough gas and too much clutch. But after the car warms up its fine I can let the rpm almost drop to 1 and let go of the clutch and it takes off smooth. All my other gears are good from what I can feel, it being my DD. I'm at 230,000km on my 99. I got the car second hand so I have no clue if the clutch and gears were serviced at the right times. I am assuming so cause my clutch it still kinda stiff and smooth so I think the previous own did the proper maintaince when it was due. I have thought about changing the clutch and compression plate to a stage 1 or some thing of the sort but I don't know if I want it rougher for my DD. Just my 2 cents. :D :D

thanks for the input. at first it was just when my car was cold but then over time it became something that happens quite often.

Thanx castro ill def look into that!

my 4cyl 5 speed tranny also have the simmilar symptom as you described, and initially i thought it was the clutch, so i went to online dealer, bought the oem clutch disc, pressure plate, release bearing, rear main seal, and axle seal, and flywheel from ebay, total about $250 in part, spent 20 hours changing the clutch myself, and the old clutch is indeed wearing out, flywheel surface not smooth, rear main seal leaking, after i installed all the new parts back, and to my disappointment, the same groaning/whining noise still there, the noise only happen when in gear, and happen both accerlerating and decelerating, but the noise sound only a little different. went to junk yard, found a $250 4cyl mt tranny, 30 days warranty, repeated the exercise, this time only took 10 hours of my labor, and my car is back on the road, no more whining noise. so basically i throw $500 in parts, and 30 hours of my labor (i am not in automotive repair field, i am an EE, working in computer field, with a little knowledge on fixing car from watching my mechanic friends)

Yea im either gonna get a new tranny...thnx again castro.... or just sell the thing as is.

From the title of your post, I thought RuPaul died or something . But yah, sorry to hear though.
