i don't think it's a big deal. I took mine off and put it back on in a couple off minutes. I'm sure any kind of throttle body cleaner would be fine. I expected to see a crap load of carbon build up on mine, but there wasn't. I reset the ecu and there hasn't been a problem since (about 4 months ago) If you can use a ratchet, i definitely recommend doing this yourself, instead of paying for it. A parts store would more than likely have to order it. I called checker for a price and i was looking up the same part online and i could have ordered it for 100 bux less. But i didn't need it soo.....good luck!

yup same here.. Except i don't have the resources to clean the EGR or make sure it ain't the sensor. 5SFE engine. My CEL bounces on and off. Takes awhile to turn off though. Maybe after 6cycles of turning on/off the engine with 5-10mile trips 1 way.

This is it, the VSV or Vacuum Switching Valve or the modulator. I know, I went through and nobody in the world could tell me what a VSV was, so I did that research thing. I had already cleaned, changed, and swore at my EGR, and it was not defective. One easy way to see if it has flow is just to pull up on the bottom of the diaphragm and if it kills the engine it's flowing.

This does sound exactly like the problem I had though, so look into this VSV...sadly they're about 90 bucks

Find out how much a modulator is and if you can't test yours, replace the cheapest.

I am in the process of replacing my EGR, they are not cheap. You should check the diaphragm the operates the valve. Put a hand vacuum on it, and see if it can hold a steady vacuum for a few minutes, and your car should run bad. If that diaphragm vacuum fails you will need a new EGR.
