Viper / Starting problem?

Well, I am finally doing better physically. After about 2.5 - 3 years of it sitting idle, I have started working on my Solara again. I have everything back where it belongs for the most part, other than some brakes, and exhaust hangers, but I cannot get the car to start. It attempts to start, but it's like something is killing the starter. I think it may be the Viper. Is there a safety that will cause the Viper to make it so the car won't start in the event of a long dead battery, or when it's taking a 14v jump from my booster? Does anyone have a wiring diagram for the Viper E550 in a Solara? I figure worse case I will just go in and pull it if I can, but I am not sure where to start digging at the wires.

if the vehicle is cranking, but not turning over, it's NOT the alarm.

if you still want to remove the alarm anyway, most installations are done behind the knee panel. once removed, you'll be able to trace the wires and reconnect your starter wire.

but again, the alarm interfaces with the starter WIRE only, so if the car <i>cranks</i> but doesn't turn over...it's somethin' else.

It doesn't crank, its like something is keeping the the starter from engaging the flywheel. It just makes a really high speed clicking, like it's trying to engage over and over again. This all whilst the tachometer and speedometer are going nutty. I have plenty of voltage to crank it, so I am not sure what is going on. Any ideas?

It should start, even w/o a battery.

it's not the alarm then. if it were, NO SOUND would be produced at all.

check the battery terminals--always sneaky buggers when i had trouble starting the vehicle before.

I'll try running the booster right to the starter . Be back in 15. I want this car to start today.

if that doesnt work try tapping the starter if that works that means you need a new one

I am starting to think the starter is seized up. I guess that could happen sitting for this long. I am yanking it right now, gonna see if I can get it to start moving. If not I will check to see if the one in the Celica or Avalon matches .

Well the starter is turning now, when unloaded... ignition is ok, I am going to bolt it back in. What would a seized motor sound like when you try to start it? I managed to blow about half my fuses a second ago

put a new one just had that problem with nissan maxima cost him $148.00..just put a new one so later you wont have problems

I can get one for less than that, but if it's turning then it's not the problem. Don't want to toss money down the tubes, and just start replacing parts. It bench tested fine, so I am thinking it was either jammed up, or the motor isn't wanting to turn.

It's a good idea, but right now I just need to get the car to go. If the motors locked, then it wouldn't make sense to buy the starter. I tried swapping the started from my Celica and it still wouldn't kick. I am going to try to see if I can get the motor to turn at the crank pulley here this weekend. I really hope it's not locked up.

Good luck..hmm take off your alarm and see what happens because those alarms and others knida activate the kill switch for no reason..i say if its not factory dont put it
