Lug Nuts
So I got new wheels (I will show some pictures soon) and had to get new lug nuts to put the wheels on. I went to Advance Auto and bought some new lug nuts, I think the style was 'shank' meaning long and skinny where the threads are. I put two wheels on and my dad comes out to see what I am up to when I am in the process of putting the third wheel on. He takes the forth wheel and then one of my new lug nuts and places the lug nut in the hole of the wheel where the lug nut should be place. He showed me that the lug nut was about a quarter inch shy of breaking through the other side of the hole (not long enough?). He is extremely car intellegent but more so with the older street rods with 427s in them if you know what I mean. I felt he was stupid when he made his next comment to me though, 'you wont pass inspection with these lug nuts, they are not long enough, they are too short and you cant drive around a car with this short of lug nuts on.' I know they dont check lug nuts at inspection, and my lug nuts easily cleared 4/5s of the wheel's lug nut hole. I do however understand that our lives are riding on 5 little nuts but I felt they were safe. What do you all think, do I need to get longer lug nuts, if so what would you suggest (not pricey), is my dad being absurd or am I just being a teenager.
