Cold air only out Driver Vents

Cold air only out Driver Vents

My AC started blowing cold air out the the driver side vents only. The passenger vents are blowing warmer air that smells like its got humidity in it. Do you think it just needs a recharge or is it a bigger problem? Its a 2003 with 50000 miles on it.

mine did that before, probably just needs a recharge, but since mine was considerably older, I had to replace the condenser, etc.

I had the same problem about a month and a half ago, and as the weeks went by it started to get warmer gradually and then saturday it wouldn't get cold at all so I recharged it on sunday and now it works fine and ice cold.

Well I found out its NOT the freon level. I bought a kit and the pressure is just fine, so I didnt add any. Anybody have any other suggestions on what I may want to look into? Is there a dampener that switches between the vent and AC that may be bad? Any help or suggestions are appreciated.

I checked the air mix damper control cable and it is just fine. It closes all the way, so I can rule that out. Anybody with any experience working on the ventilation system on our cars?

Thanks for the reply, I check everything out and the condensor and the rest of the AC assembly seem to check out fine. I think its gotta be something where the outside air mixes with the AC air, but I cant find anywhere where there is a mixer door or anything. The air on the passenger side gets down to about 62 degrees. Its weird how one side works great and the other doesnt.

mines doing the same thing right now. i am running the freon w/dye in it so i can trace the leak. you said your level wasnt bad, mine drops w/in a month, so i know i have a pretty good leak. the one thing i am not ruling out is the evaporator, which means you need to remove the dash to get to it. i'll re-post after i find out for sure. i just keep recharging so i can at least stay cold.

mine did that for a while, as well as leaking out freon.

turns out that it was my ac condenser and dryer.

i recommend taking your car to a local auto hvac specialist, and have them do a free estimate. they will usually be able to diagnose, as well as tell you what part(s) are bad.

this is what i did, after taking it to the dealer and the body shop that did some work on it (problem started after getting into a fender bender, so i was making the body shop try and figure it out, even though it's not their specialty).

all in all, it ended up costing about 200 in parts, and about another 50 in labor.

but i don't want to tell you FOR SURE that this is the problem, even though it worked for me. i don't want you to go out and buy parts that may or may not solve the problem.

GL fixing this
