TRD alternator pivot bolt material?

TRD alternator pivot bolt material?

Postby alltrac92 » Thu Jun 26, 2008 7:01 pm

A couple of questions does anybody know the material of the bolt? and if not what would be the preferred material? also is the 100MM legnth the overall measure from top to bottom? I found a suppiler that can make them but pricing will depend on material and quantity.

Um, these are a Top strength metal. If you use anything less, they will strip more easier then the OEM one does. Go with what you want, but the TRD ones are the top metal ones.

Wow! I did not know it's made from metal I thought it was plastic. Is that why a magnet sticks to it?

I did not know top strength is a grade of steel. If you had a preference would it be stainless steel 18-8, grade 8 ,or alloy steel? Maybe I can request Toyota top strength steel.

grade 8 is pretty cheap...i dont think any bolts in the engine bay even use grade 8.

I tried using some grade 8 for some crap before, that was a mistake, haha. Oh man, that was a crappy day.......

If you use Grade 8 for this, the hex will strip a LOT easier then it does already.

LOL!!
I would be VERY suprised if it's not grade 8. Afterall it's a pivot bolt that holds on a plate along with 4 or 5 other bolts.
BTW, I talked to Fastnel...they will have the bolt made for $26.95 ea.
This will be the only way once TRD runs out.
Got Boost?? :sweet:

I told you guys you could get a stupid bolt from a hardware specific company...

And who cares if it strips faster? Ive touched that bolt once since I installed the blower- just buy a bunch. I highly doubt toyota has some uber rare kryptonite impossible-to-find bolt in there...

Why don't you all look at MSC industrial or some other supplier for this.

This thread is the perfect example of Darwinism in the making.

I'll get my bolt through Vik, enjoy buying your bolts through another company for more $.

Im getting my bolt from vik too, Im just saying dont be all elitist about a bolt guys... thats all Im saying.

Vik, dont get all pissy like that. All I was trying to prove is a comparable replacement can be found somewhere else on this earth. Thats all Im saying. I will still pick a bolt up from you and I agree OEM is the best option, but geez... you guys are my homies, chill out :) no offense meant!

and a bolt stripping out does not equal darwinism Adam

im just saying, its too much of a hassle for me to call up and do all this crap when all the work goes unappreciated, i dont rape on the price of the bolts...so ya'll can go get more expensive, lesser grade, unknown fitting bolts from wherever...compared to my cheaper, TRD bolts.

Hey, I appreciate your efforts. I've said it once and I'll say it again...replacements for these bolts are extremely hard to find. They may not be impossible to locate, but TRD did a good job of using the most obscure size, thread pitch, and head possible.
