Driving Untuned...

Driving Untuned...

Postby CamryOnBronze » Wed Jun 18, 2008 2:20 pm

Alright, so I am a couple weeks away from installing some new goodies, two of those being a pulley and supra injectors- for real this time. Im serious.

My question is this: My shop is 2.5 hours away from my house on the east side. If I install a pulley and supra injectors, can i make that drive untuned? obviously the car will be running mega rich, but would I be okay if i stayed out of boost and didnt get on the car? Im just wondering if it would hurt anything or if I should wait until i get to the shop to install that stuff.

Open to advice, thanks guys 8)

just make sure ur safcII is reset and ur ecu is controlling the a/f instead of the safcII tricking it. Like u said, stay outa boost and u should be fine!

I plan to do the exact same early august when my supra injectors go in.

Whats gonna be nuts is the first run the dyno tuners will do...lol untuned, in boost till 6k or watever, to see where they have to adjust on the safcII

basically what vik said....as long as you don't let the ecu go into open loop, you'll be running in stoich still (after your ecu has adjusted)

but if the ecu goes open loop, then you'll be running afrs at around 9.0 and blowing lots of black smoke

I'm running about -10 across the board right now at 4K and above all the way to redline even at 7psi.

You'll be fine Damon, like King and Vik said. Your instincts were right, just don't go hard on it and the trip will be fine.

During my "learning" stages, I drove around with bigger injectors and bigger pump for a while, untuned, and everything was fine. Just looking back now, what a waist of gas!

OR, now that I think about it....you have a wideband, damon....

sooooo....street tune that bitch and then take it to the dyno. the challenge is to try and get it as close to your tuning point as possible and surprise the hell out of your tuner :p

yeah Im not a big street tune fan  but that was my other instinct, just pull some fuel and baby the car there, I figured it would be just fine.

I would do it at the shop. but odds are we are going to be tuning and doing some other work there after hours, so I dont want to keep my friend there any longer than he needs to be. It would be a lot easier for me to do it at home on my own the day before or something.

And Jeff, do you mean "duh, dont drive the car hard?" I dont think you were trying to be snooty, at least I hope not...

I need a 100% sure answer, cause when i set my appointment, ill setup urs too.

I think i should be going late july or mid aug. U okay with that? we can drive down together. So just fix ur car up before that time and we can go.

If u bring ur car a bit tuned, the price will be alot lower since they wont have to adjust much, anyway lets keep this out of Damons thread, Send me a pm when u are ready.
