I remember reading that for automatics (which I have) there is no boost in 1st gear and also that boost doesn't happen 'till 3k rpm. Is that correct? Also, is the EBC the same for auto and manual? Can the EBC be reprogrammed? The main question: Is it a waste of money to supercharge an auto??
Yes, no boost until 3k, as for the "no boost in first"...not sure.
Yes, the EBC can be wired for both. I emailed TRD tech and they confirmed this. Reprogrammed...probably no. Toyota's are kinda funny that way.
The EBC is an afterthought by TRD (and Toyota Corp.) to help save the automatics life expectancy. Toyota would keep the warranty in place if you had them install it. I have never installed it on mine. If you put a cooler and run synthetic trans fluid it should be fine.
Waste of time....It makes it a completely different car!!!
Just do the fuel upgrades: pump, Jim's kit. And you should be able to boost to 5.5 safely and there is a considerable difference with 1 1/2 lbs. of boost.
Protect the auto with a cooler.
And maintenance, maintenance, maitenance.
