Lol, where in the world did you find 6lb tires? I want some! :-P

hahah yeah funny ! :P

My ex-19's were weighting at around 25-28 lbs and the tire almost the same low 20's lbs Toyo Proxes T1-R Z-Rated tire are thicker and have strong metal structure inside it.

crispone wrote:RADIUS OF GYRATING MASS.

First, simple MASS. This is the WEIGHT of the rim on a scale. But WAIT... that is only HALF of the equation. The OTHER consideration is WHERE that mass is being carried in any given rim design. The CLOSER to the HUB the mass is CENTERED, the BETTER. More mass on the perimeter requires MORE torque to accelerate.

Another way to put it... you can have rims of the SAME WEIGHT net very different results.

When you get LARGER rims, EVEN if they are the same or similar to a smaller rims TOTAL WEIGHT, the outer ring, which is a METAL CYLINDER of material VERY NEAR THE FARTHEST DISTANCE from the center, or hub of the gyration, is MUCH heavier than the incremental SIDEWALL height (hollow inside) at that same diameter, or radius from the hub. Look at drag racing vehicles, small rims, with TALL SIDEWALLS! Less mass to "spool up", if you will.

Nope, if you want to handle better and accelerate quicker, get moderate or smaller diameter rims, and/or select one's that place as LITTLE MASS on the farthest radius from the hub. (While maintaining their strength, of course...) They will ride better, and have better foul weather traction, as well.

Just some thoughts...

Agreed... I think that you're sentiment on the bulk of the mass being in the center of the wheel is better IF you're doing mostly city driving... a lot of accelerating/decelerating. Now if you are doing more highway, longer distance, i think that mass concentrated at the outer edge of the wheel is better. The reason being is that mass centered at the hub of the wheel accelerates faster/easier... BUT it also DEcelerates faster and easier. Mass concentrated at the outside of the wheel accelerates and decelerates SLOWER, therefore maintaining a constant speed with less work from the engine. ;)

Either way, i dont see how paying another 1-2K for new wheels just to save an extra 1-2MPG is really going to end up saving any money.

Who said I'm paying 1 - 2k extra for the 18's
When you put 1400 - 1500 miles a month 1 or 2 miles makes a difference.
Plus tare and wear on the engine and tranny due to the extra weight.

If you were to put lighter than 17-in vs 17-inch stocker wheels then it would provide a benefit. However, how would you calculate such differences between stock 16-inch vs 18-inch superlightweight wheels? What formula would we apply?

So, you can rotate tires but not wheels? Not bad...

Is the staggered look just a different offset on the same wheel?
