I sold my strut to Eddie, but still have the upper mount rubber insulations.

I already has used the lower spring with stock susoension for 3 years now some squeeze sound come out for the right rare side.
My car already 70k miles so I just want to change the rare pair only. I found a place selll them $105 for each.

here's what I gather, the OE ones will work, but if you can do it right the first time.

Well you need to look at them and see if they are warn out. The upper strut mount is the part that has the studs sticking out and attaches to the top of the frame. In general, if you are replacing the struts, it's usualy good to replace the upper stut mounts as well. But if they aren't that warn, you can usualy get 100k outa them. The rears are a 2 peice setup with upper mounts and the strut, the fronts are a 3 piece with upp mounts, upper spring seat, and strut. The factory service manual has all these parts listed in exploded views. keep in mind, if your replacing this, you will want to purchase new upper strut mount barings from the dealership (reggie might have a good price on them but last i heard they are abotu $20 a pop retail)

Well the funny thing about struts, if your going to replace em, replace all of them, because if you just to the back, then you'll start to realize how different the fronts are. But if your planning on replacing all the struts, and your doing springs aswell, it can save you a lot of time by having two whole seperate setups rather than taking each one apart and then putting it back together. Of course the key is to look at them and see if they need replacing. Your factory strut mounts may be fine. On that note, if your going to get replacement upper mounts, go toyota oem brand, i've found that they just hold up a lot better than aftermarket ones.

so at 70k is it safe to say that shocks and spring should be fine? the mount and other stuff can be reused?

I hate to hijack but Im in the same boat as alan8888, actually I want to lower the car and of change the shocks at the same time.

thanks for the info SMAN~!

safe is not something i can say just on milage. It's how they have been treated. If you live in areas that are high in potholes, and bad winter, your struts are going to wear a lot more than an area that is mostly dry and temperate with smoother roads. unfortunatly you can't really tell how the mounts are without taking the unit apart and inspecting them.

Every thing is just about $$$

I should get the tein set on the first time...

my car already 70k ... i believe only 1,5 ~2 years for this car to reach 100k.

I found I need to change my axis that is around $ 250 with labor :-(

And now going for at least a pair of strut + upper mount around $380 with labor

I found a cheap car shop near my around which i paid them before to change all the spring around $200. I wish they can charge me $100 bucks for the rare strut only.

Aotoyota the link u send me from the drivewire the price is HELL expensive for the upper mount. I found a place only sell them for $45 only.

I just wondering is this come for 1 or a pair
If it is just 1 oh no CRAP!!!

$87.70 x2 + shipping = :-(

alan8888

the drivewire link was more for definition of the part and not for the price.

where did you find them for $45? for that price, I might change all mine out when I do the springs + shocks change.

Wow. The spelling and grammer in this thread is going to make my head explode! lol.

Think about it like this. Would you rather spend the money now, while doing it all at once, or later, when you have to replace just the mounts? I would rather have a higher bill up front, and take comfort knowing that my suspension was stable for a longer period of time.

But thats my opinion.
