Horrible Memorial weekend start...window cable broke.

Make a long story short, taking the family to Ohio for some shopping and got a ticket for speeding (that's two years in a row for Ohio now...sheesh)

Then, we arrived at the outlet and I dropped my driver-side window and I hear this clank after the window was all the way down, freaking cable broke and window wouldn't row up, had no tools and lucky had my trusty pocket knife and managed to remove door panel and managed to rig it to stay up so we could go shopping, sheesh.

Talking bout some bad luck.

Now, I'm not sure if they'll be able to fix it by next weekend for the Columbus event.

-M :(

The service manual gives you step by step on how to fix it, if they can't i'm sure you can have it done in time ;)

Hang in there Mike!

It's frustrating but should be easy to fix for next weekend. Keep us posted. Don't break anything through frustration. LOL

A number of years ago, I used to be a truck driver.

Truck drivers normally hate driving through Ohio. The police are notorious and the speed limit is WAY too low.

^^LOL^^ Both my tickets were during holidays too (note to self: do not travel to Ohio during holiday weekends...lol)

I'm glad to see others can relate. I'll try to see what needs to be ordered and go from there.

Usually you can't speed on I-75 in Ohio. For some reason. Ohio drivers do not respect the left lane rule. So they putz along at 64 mph for miles trying to pass a truck going 63 mph. No chance of getting a ticket with all the slow drivers.

Sorry to hear Michael - hope it gets better for you!

And yes -legal or not, a radar detector helps tons! Get a stealthy install of a V-1 or something.

This happened to me last summer. I opened my door and my window came sliding down and wouldnt roll back up. Snapped cable. Don't know about you gen2'ers, but for gen1, it was pretty easy to fix, but the part for me was on-order only (Window Regulator) so you have to rig it so it stays up for a while (I used my trusty friend the 2x4, wedged inside the window panel

Its definitely fixable by yourself if you have a little DIYer in you. If not, its about 2 hours of labor at any mechanic.

And if you do it yourself, a little tip for when I did it. Do NOT take the circular cable spindle out of the white plastic cage without putting it on the window motor. You want to shove the entire spindle with the cage onto the existing window motor because the cage keeps the circle centered. If you take it off without putting it on the motor, its very difficult to get back on.

Mike,

Good to chat today! Sorry on the "still uncertain" status with the repair!

Yeah... driving in the Buckeye on MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND is just BEGGING for a ticket! They are NOTORIOUS for picking people off on this past weekend. I had my LAST ticket on Memorial Day weekend here in the O-H as WELL! (Some may recall... it was the day the SUPRA ran again for the first time in FIVE+ years! COULDN'T HELP MYSELF!)

Personally, I use a V1, and have for over a dozen years. BEST units made, after trying MANY other brands. UNFORTUNATELY, it wasn't in the SUPRA last M-Day!

Anyway... I'm EXPECTING you will figure something out for the meet!

G/L.

The gen 2 window regular and motor is all one unit, therefore costing $470 for the part from the dealership. I'm trying to find an alternative route, but have not had much luck.

My last shot is tomorrow, I'm hoping the one I got is in good working condition; the first one was slightly bent causing it not to want to roll back up once the mechanic had everything tighten.

I'd do it myself as well, but having to watch both of my 2 and 3 year old daughters are tough.

I didn't mind for toyota to do the work seeing how I too would have ran into the same problems they did, I'm just praying for this to be fixed tomorrow. If my memory serves me correctly, estimated time for window regulator was bout 1 1/2 hours.

I've been looking forward to this meet for some time now...when it rains...it pours... :(
