Have an annoying sound

Have an annoying sound

Postby SpeedySolara » Sat May 24, 2008 12:28 am

Recently my Lara has been making a "whooom, whooom, whooom" sound. I feel like an idiot describing it in such premature terms but nonetheless this is the sound that seems to be coming out of the rear passenger wheel. Funny enough the sound only happens when driving straight or slightly turning to the left or changing lanes. When I change lanes to the right or an even slight motion to the right makes the sound stop. So thats what I have, any ideas on what it could be. Oh, and my brake light occasionally comes on and off randomly even though the brake fluid is topped off. Hope this helps and hopefully someone can perhaps guide me in the right direction before I give this car a real check up.

1) Possibly the wheel bearing
2) Check your brake pads and rotors?

^^Bingo

Usually bearings make a moaning sound on their way out, really bad bearings make squeals.

I was around 80K when I replaced my pads and rotors, though they were fine. If you drive alot and put alot of wear on your brake parts, it would be a good idea to replace them.

Thank you guys. I've seen the eBay cross drilled rotors at pretty decent prices but I'm skeptical on the kind of quality. I won't knock them but figured I'd ask before I make a final decision on what to buy. I already have front and rear TRD pads, what rotors should I get?

Lots of folks (including myself) run brembo blanks. If you're one of those people that wear out their brakes then I suggest Brembo blanks as well or OEM blanks.

Someone mentioned those R1 x-drilled from ebay a while ago, not sure how that went.

Good luck on w/e you choose though.

Before I changed my rear rotors, it made the same sound that you described, after I put on fresh rear rotors (and new front pads) it all went away. plus my stupid brake light went away too on the dash :P

Oh and I stuck with blanks on hawk HPS pads.

Mine was doing a "ishh ishhh ishhh ishh" sound with a "glinggg glingg" on bumps hehe.

It was my rear calipers, both were rust and was almost not braking anymore. They try to remove them and put some grease, they were just too old. After $500 , 2 brand new calipers + read pads brakes, it work like a charm. I didn't change the brake rotors, they were still straight and in good shape.

Now it's the week-end, I'm doing the "Deep crystal" from Meguiar's 3 steps, to make Lara looks like a young girl again lol.
