Squeaking or squealing??

Squeaking or squealing??

Postby sol-brotha » Tue Apr 29, 2008 5:52 pm

I have had my 2000 Solara SLE for about a week and I have noticed a sqeaking or a squealing noise. It speeds up and slows down when I speed up and slow down and you can only hear it within the car towards the rear of the car. Any ideas or similar problems??

i also get some squeaking noises when i'm driving around on my Gen2, mostly when my car is moving around a lot in the rear, though. I asked around, and it's most likely that my bushings are getting dry. Gunna have to get to that this weekend.

Since yours sounds like its more constant, probably not the same thing. But maybe/who knows?

Sounds like a bearing. Have someone stand outside your car (in a large empty lot) and drive around normally. Then brake hard in a straight line, accelerate hard in a straight line, turn hard in both directions.

Try not to hit your observer...you don't really need to go too fast, 15-20 mph TOPS. It should be fast enough to tell you exactly where the sound is coming from (which corner).

If you hear it while you brake hard, it's coming from your front, if you hear it only while accelerating hard it's your rear. Then, if you hear it while turning hard lefts it'll be from your right. If you hear it while turning hard rights it'll be coming from your left.

I hear it when I'm driving in any direction, breaking or accelerating. The only time it stops is when I reach a very high rate of speed or when I am idling in drive.

Is it LOUD like brake squeal or is it less?

So it doesn't squeal when you're stopped and when you're moving fast...hmmmm

There's only two things that we can really look at here, something connected to your rear wheels (usually brakes or bearings) or a bad fuel pump.

I am having the same sound coming from the back passenger side of my 99 Gen 1. Ive come to the conclusion its my brakes...i think its a simple brake pad change so check yours could be same.
