HID retrofit GB??? $1000 for EVERYTHING

HID retrofit GB??? $1000 for EVERYTHING

Postby DrLove » Tue May 20, 2008 7:45 am

Hi guys, I contacted Bjorn from Custom Lightz about HID retrofit.

He said me that it would cost about $1000 for a complete plug and play including the headlights.

He also said: "We have done some retrofits for the solara/camry, but it doesn't seem to be a hit in that community."

"I would suggest that we do FX35 projectors retrofit using a clear lens swap and MDX shrouds.
http://customlightz.com/?p=p_114&sName= ... projectors
http://customlightz.com/?p=p_66&sName=mdx
"

So Im wondering... Does people here would like a GB for retrofit on Gen1 headlights? if we can be 10 to buy it together, he MAYBE could make a better price and the final product would be better, because he doesn't need to redesign for each car... he makes a bunch for everyone at the same time.

I hope the members of Solaraguy wants HID retrofit and would go in a GB is one happen.

I would be interested, but thats more then I wanted to spend..... Can it be more custom? Black Housing? Angel Eyes? Plug and Play, does that mean we get everything we need to make it work. new ballasts, hid bulbs, wire harness included in that price? If you can get us a good discount price, I am sure that alot of us with gen 1 would do it cause I'm sure that a lot of us have thought about doing a retro fit just don't have the extra time and good craftsman ship. lol ( speaking for my self of course hehe)

Keep me in the loop!

1000 is wayyyyy too much to spend on a retrofit...

I did my projectors on my car (camry)- non-bixenon for 100bucks....which was basically the cost of the projectors and that's it (+$10 3bay shrouds). then a $100 d2s kit and it was amazing...

For $1000 it's plug and play with EVERYTHING.

It's NEW headlights (that he use to make the retrofit with a FX35 projectors and MDX shrouds) + NEW ballast + NEW HID bulbs + NEW harness.

Sure that it's wayyyyy cheaper to use your EOM headlights, buy HID bulbs and ballast and an old projector and try it.. but I use my car every day and I need my headlights, I can't remopve them for a month to do tests and all and there is a huge risk to destroy your headlights.. I saw some treads on the web that guys started retrofit and never finish them... OEM headlights cost lot of money $$$.

I prefer to pay 1k$ and get 1 year warranty, all I need and just plug it, and if I seel the car or want to go back to stock I still have my headlights.

Another option would be to find in a junk yard the headlights, I don,t know for USA, but here in Canada SOlara are prettyr are so there is no parts.

If somebody wants to do it for cheaper Im interest for sure, but I don,t want to ship my headlights.

I already have the projectors and shrouds from an FX35, the stock headlights, and the ballasts (ones I'm using on my car now). I just need someone to put the projector into the headlight. Can this guy do just that, I'm too lazy to do this on my own

THere is lot opf body kits, performance parts etc.. for Solara but no projector headlights..

If nobody here is interest it's ok. I just want to help when I can to make things move.

1k$ is a lot, but not that much compare to the money that I see on aftermakets parts here, it's just another one more visible.

I live in trois-Rivieres near montreal, your camry is more popular than Solara. If no GB here happen Im gonna try at a junk yard for the ehadlights, if it's really cheap than I will think about try it by myself.. if not I will stick with the eom.

$1K is quite high. I did my retro with new, top of the line everything and still spent way below that.

akora12,

Have you made a tutorial or send pics of your retrofit? It would be very interesting, parts numbers, where you bought them..etc...

1k$ is not cheap that's true

Tracy (Mr_Chunks) i got his done somewhere and I went on their site and it was roughly 800 bucks for headlights and all that stuff put together..

Id be interested if price was lower AND if it had black housings not the stock clear/chrome stuff.

Tracy, what kind of bulbs do those projectors use? let me know man, thanks.
