Fuel

Postby Jakecallun20 » Sun May 11, 2008 8:15 pm

Whatever the case may be, I know my car can get much better mileage than it is. So I will try replacing the fuel filter and plug wires soon. I know the wires are OEM. Like I asked earlier, does anyone know of a tutorial on the subject? I can't seem to find one in searches. It doesn't seem that hard. I just want to compare with something, like a tutorial.

Well no, I didn't check. If I had to guess, I'd say like 17.2, The light was on. But I was trying to find out the Miles per gallon, from the whole tank. So since the tank was full (at 18.5) I divided that by my mileage at the next fill up. I still think changing the fuel filter will help something. I don't think it has ever been changed since 1999. The car had the original spark plugs in it when I changed those. The air filter looked original or very close to it. I wouldn't be surprised if it is the original fuel filter.

As I said before, you cannot figure out your mileage going by tank volume. You HAVE to go by the gallons you filled at the time.

1) Reset trip meter at fill up
2) Fill up whenever you do normally
3) Divide trip meter mileage by gallons filled (the gallons shown on the screen at the pump)

That is the only way you get your mileage, not the way you are doing. So don't go crazy replacing parts if you don't even know the proper mileage you are getting yet.

Alright, I'll give it a shot. I put $20 in yesterday, I'll check the receipt tomorrow for exact amount.

Step 1) fill your tank all the way
Step 2) RESET your trip odo and DRIVE!
Step 3) next time you need to fill up, look on your receipt at the gallons sold (or just read it off the gas pump)
Step 4) now divide the number on your odo by the actual gallons sold to get average MPG

The most I've gotten out of mine is 535 miles, yellow light blinking for a while (low on cash)... Haven't done it again since I know it hurts the fuel pump. Oh, and it was mostly highway on my I-4 though on my work route!

As above stated...for the time before you try to calculate your mpg, you have to FILL TO FULL.

Yep, did just that and used the odometer; the onboard display tends to maybe lie a little, but then again, I always used 18.5 gal in my calculations.

Just thought I'd share a pretty easy way of finding an estimated mpg without damaging the fuel pump. You can fill up your gas tank. Make sure to write down the current mileage on the car (a). Drive it maybe to half a tank, which is usually when I refill. Write down the new current mileage on the car (b) and the number of gallons of gas you pumped (c).

(b-a)/c =~mpg

Ex. (131,825miles - 131,625miles)/8.75gallons =~22.86mpg

That's how I did it in the eclipse... till this car has the electronic odo memory. I use A to claculate mpg and B for oil changes.

I need to change my oil soon too! 2500 but the oil is still a light Bronze color. I used mobil 1 full synth and added Lucas full synthetic oil stablizer. Had a small leak of oil on the back side of the engine and since I changed the oil... no leak. I think I'll do the same, that is unless anyone says it's a bad idea for the Lucas. I had good luck with it in the eclipse too. Had a valve cover leak and mostly stopped when I did the same combo.

The Lucas Oil stabilizer thickens oil a bit... not sure if its the same for the synthetic. Still, I don't run it for the same reason... scared of sludge. Anyhow, if it does cure your small leaks and the inside of engine is OK, don't see a reason why you shouldn't use it.

In regards to 2500mile change, its too soon... goto 4000 and you'll get more out of oil change and still feel great.

K, any good way checking for sludge other than during an oil change?
