Gas Mileage on Gen 1 auto V6

With gas prices so high, I was just wondering what kind of gas mileage you guys get on your SLE (or auto) V6. Are the 4cyl a lot more efficent, or just a few more mpg?

In conclusion, gas prices suck.

my 99 solara v6 give me 450 miles, and i have to fill up 16 gallon to full again. 75% highway speed around 65 to 70mph, rest is local traffic.

wow you guys have really good gas milage... I only get 300-340 miles on 16 gallons. Do you guys drive really slow? I think I might need to bring mine to a mechanic

Also, I've been getting this kind of mileage even before I started modding my car, just in case you think that's the problem, and my car was bought 33k miles...

Official sticker MPG -

2.2L Auto - 23/30
3.0L Auto - 19/27
2.4L Auto - 23/32

By today's EPA testing standards, its

2.2L Auto - 20/28
3.0L Auto - 17/25
2.4L Auto - 21/29

So its about 3MPG better, or about 15% less gas for 3.0L to 2.2L. About 4MPG or about 20% better from 3.0L to 2.4L.

Just for comparisons sake to see how far engines have come, the 3.5L in the new Camry rates at 19/28, also about 15% less gas than the 3.0L while producing 40% more power, and the 3.5L in the IS350 pulls in at 18/25, making 306HP on less gas than it took to make 200HP out of the 3.0L.

This is the one sad thing I've experienced a lot since I got my car... Worse gas mileage and less power... maybe that's why so many people here are parting with their solaras...

I have over 180,000 miles on the odometer now and i still get around 25 mpg. 16 gallons for 400 miles consistently for the past 10 years.

I have a 5 speed V6 SE. However, the MPG should be very similar to the AUTO SLE V6.

I do 70% freeway/30% surface street. I don't do crazy things any more but i still rev the engine up past 5k occasionally.

Maybe the 5 Speed does make a difference.... you know the Auto is tuned for comfort, and that's probably why it's giving bad numbers on the mileage...

Last I checked, I'm averaging 19 mpg with mostly highway driving. About 300 or so on 16 or 17 gallons. I have a 99 sle v6. I do need to replace my o2 sensor and check the egr system.

When I first got my Solara (V6), I went on a road trip to Chicago.
I started in Fort Worth TX. I got all the way to Rolla MO before I had to stop for gas. Since then, I installed a supercharger and a few other mods.
Now I'm lucky to make it to Springfield MO.

Also, I now have a Yaris.

Yea 40mpg!!!

I just returned form a week long trip in which I drove about 1800 miles. About 1500 of them were going to and fro and the other 300 was running around with a mix of in-town and freeway miles.

The best trip miles I acheived was 29.4mpg and the worst was 26.4. My average for the entire trip was 27.3. This is for a 2001 SLE v-6 convertible with automatic transmission. My worst tank ever for purely around town driving was 23.2mpg. During the trip, I drove one tank of gas for 464 miles so I could see the "low fuel" light come on. I figure I had about 1.5gal remaining in the tank when it first started to illuminate.

wow guys, I get about 16 mpg driving locally but I guess it's average when looking at the sticker's MPGs. No major mods just injen intake and trd muff. Plus, I don't have a heavy foot so it leaves me clueless.
