very long discussion on that here:

These headers are not CARB legal, they remove all cats from the car and are meant to increase the horsepower and performance of the car to the as much as possible. We do not make parts that are CARB certified.

I think there is a post around these forums somewhere about this issue, do a search.

For those who have to get their car smogged every 3 years, the best advice i can give you is put your factory manifolds and parts back on the car before you go for the test. I dont know about other states but in California we have to smog a car every 3 years.

The warranty on all of our products is a lifetime limited warranty against manufacturing defects etc.

Thanx, Eyal

Thanks for clearing that up. Are there any states in which the headers would be emmissions legal?

Also, what do these headers sound like? I've got to think that they're going to be really loud. I know some people will probably be OK with that, but during normal driving I don't want to hear a lot of noise.

cdssolara,

Good question.

We dont know yet, once we will get the production version we will do all of the testing. We assume that the headers wont be too loud with the factory exhaust on there, however different exhaust systems will change how the headers will sound. Our exhaust system will be modified to work best with the headers once installed and that will help with the noise factor.

I know there are a lot of questions to be answered and we cant do that right now because we are still waiting for the production versions to come in. Once we do all the tests we will be able to provide with much better answers.

Thanx, Eyal

Also if sound is a concern, a resonator will help to dampen some sound, but you will also put back some restriction in doing so. It's a trade off... so like Eyal said it mainly depends on your exhaust.

I dont know if u missed my question or what but my question is
Do the CAI come w/ and air filter?
And Are you making a bypass valve for the CAI?
Thanx

I emailed xerd bout the same questions and he said that the filter that will be included will be K&N air filter. Also once they begin testing they will see if the AEM bypass valve will work with it. Now as far as them making their own bypass valve, not sure. Xerd? 8)

In my own personal opinion, and from what I've been reading over the past few years and looking at Xerd's prototype, the issue regarding the CAI sucking in water is highly unlikely.

1. You need to be driving in really really deep flooding water, i.e. a major flood. In which case most cars with a stock air box wouldn't be able to drive in either.

2. The design of their CAI doesn't put the filter in the lower fender area. It looks to me that it just goes into the top part of the fender/bumper, and teh filter is right there, so its not going to hang low like some honda CAI's.

3. The bypass valve will add on about $40 to the price, this is a guesstimate using AEM's price. Which I believe will not fly with the guys wanting a lower price on a non mass production production, which is comprable in price to an Injen Short Ram Intake.

4 I also remember reading a post that you pretty much have to completey submerge the entire filter in water for it to have the force to pull up the water. In a partial submergence, the intake will still pull air into the tube cause water is much heavier and harder to pull up than air.

I hope I helped clear some things up...

try telling all that to someone who had to replace their engine block due to their CAI pulling in water. and no, warranty does not cover this.

Like anything else you run risks by doing any type of modification to your car. The bypass valve would also defeat some purpose of a CAI. It's another opening in your engine bay where you intake pulls in air. And since it's in your bay, its gonna pull in a lot of hot air...

I take it that happened to you?

We will have a K&N filter with our intake but we will not offer a by pass valve like AEM. We will test to see if it will fit on our intake and let you guys know but we wont sell that piece, you will have to get it from somewhere else if you really want it.

In my experience, i have never seen or met anyone personally that had engine damage from a CAI. Sure water can destroy your engine but for enough water to get in the intake and flow all the way up to the engine is very unlikely. Maybe in some of the not so well designed or early versions of the CAI some people may have had such problems but even then it takes a lot of water to cause engine damage.

Like i said before i never personally heard or met someone that this has happened to.

Anyhow if you look at the prototype pictures of our CAI you will see that it would be pretty much impossible for that to happen. The intake doesn't sit all the way down to the ground so you wont have to worry about water or any other kind of dirt. Also the intake is designed so if any water does get in the filter itself the water will need to travel all the way up the intake (literally up) and that just wont happen.

Good questions guys, keep them coming.

Thanx. Eyal

Out here in Cali, I talked with the parts manager at Toyota of North Hollywood and he says he has seen it too. Kids are putting them too low, I think for the everyday driver it shouldn't be close to the bottom of the bumper.
I can't believe he told me that their isn't much for his car (new celica) as far as TRD. He says that the solara has more parts. What's toyota/TRD thinking? I thought the celica was supposed to be their performance sports car, where's the sport parts?
Well at least TRD is doing something with the solara. :P

TRD USA isn't doing anything for us, they are just using other peoples parts and putting their name on it. TRD japan is the one that develops all their own parts
