GEN 1.5 HID FOG LAMP INSTALL PROBLEM

GEN 1.5 HID FOG LAMP INSTALL PROBLEM

Postby M_ABILLONES » Wed May 07, 2008 5:06 pm

I recently bought the yellow fog lamp kit from ebay for my 2003 Toyota Solara and today when I tried to install the hid kit it seems like the bulb is too long...it's hitting the metal thingy that encloses the bulb...

Now, can I just make a whole through the metal part big enough so that the bulb can poke through? Since the tip of the hid bulb is exposed will the lens of the fog lamp melt?

Any help would be great!

Did you get the right bulb?

I mean what would happen if I drilled a nickel sized hole through that metal part that "shields" the bulb? Is that metal part even functional?

hey i had a similar problem when trying to install my bulbs i thought i was hitting the metal enclosure but it turned out to be the o-ring thing around the bulb was too thick so i swapped it out with the stock bulb's o-ring and fit right in. Im not sure if your problem is the same thought because this is on a Gen 1

and yea dont drill a whole in the enclosure because i believe that is the shielding that spreads the light out and by putting a hole in it you'll probably have a giant hot spot

so what you did was take the o-ring from the halogen bulb and swapped it with the o-ring from the hid bulb?

Now, the o-ring that you're talking about is the one that has that 3-prong looking thing? How can i remove that if it's attached to the bulb? Do i cut that off?

congrats on getting the problem solved. I never thought about that, you are right, when doing that hid swap for my fogs I had a similar issue and I had to cut off a small part of the tab to make it fit right, but it's all worth it in the end, the biggest pain for me was finding a place to put my ballasts.
