OK - I have a 2000 Solara - I'm at 59k miles. I'm the original owner. I believe I need to get a tune up. Not sure if it's a major or minor tune up. I honestly don't know the difference. I never had a tune on my care before but I do know at 60k miles I need to have 1. Are they expensive? Can someone give me a ballpark amount? I really have no idea!! Thanks to any and ALL advice

Are you planning on doing it yourself or taking it in?

Best thing to do would be to call the dealership and/or a trusted mechanic and ask for a price.

Ahh, can't help you there. Only time I take in the TuRD is for tires and alignments. If I cannot do it, then I'll take it in and so far... I can do most things.

As for prices, dealerships will be more expensive. Like said above, call around. Also I would call your buddies and ask them who they trust and what they have paid in the past. There is a section on here good/bad service. Check that out to find anything in your area.

I never bring my car to the stealership.

I either do it myself, or make friends with mechanics and go to well trusted shops that do all kinds of work and are ASE certified and have been in the business for at least 4-5 years +

thats just me. I hate letting anyone touch my car other than me. If it's someone else other than me, I make sure I know exactly what they will and will not do.
where many hate, few will love,
But for those who love,
they'll see what it's like to live.

never let anyone who works on your car find that out.

at 60k miles...
replace oil and filter
replace air filter
rotate tires
replace platinum spark plugs
a bunch of inspections

Yup and I've had my Solara since 2000!! The only work I've had done are like oil change, brakes, tires and a new battery.

Mine is a 2000 with 183K still running strong. I did have an oil sludge problem and they fixed it for free. Anyway, if you've changed oil in schedule and your car is running fine just get the oil changed, change the air filter (yourself) and clean the throttle body (tutorial) and you should be ok.

if you're not heavily modded, the stock platinum plugs are fine. they last 120k.
