Which HIDs are less likely to get me pulled over?

Yellow Foglights / HID

Yellow Foglights / HID

I was thinking about doing the "yellow fog" mod to my '03, and I was just wondering if it's really necessary to buy an HID kit to accomplish this. Would a set of yellow bulbs do the trick just as well?

If you went the HID route it would be better because it'll output so much more light.

I have the yellow bulbs and they're out shined by my headlight HIDs. If I had the money and/or cared enough, I would use HIDs in my fogs.

I'm also thinking of doing the HID upgrade on all 3 sets of lights instead. I'm planning on buying the VVME kits, and I'm trying to decide on a color. I like the idea of the 6000k, because it has a slight bluish tint (or so it appears) without looking ridiculous and getting me pulled over.

Any color suggestions? I'd like to have as few hassles as possible with the law and inspections. I live in NY.

I just put 5000k 55 watt HIDS in my fogs to compensate for the irregular beam of light I get from the 55 watt 5000k hids in my black housings for my headlights.
now my lightoutput is even. before when i only had the headlights with HID, it sucked. getting them in the fogs is a huge improvement if you have blacked out headlights like me.

^... you need to get something fixed because my 55 watt 5000Ks dont even have glare and they aren't aimed improperly either, unless if yours are.
You and I both have fog tint too, yours is clear where as mine is tinted grayish, that might be the thing.. but I doubt it?..

6000k d2s bulb, 35w
8000k 9006 bulb 50 w

imo 6000k is more like super white with tiny bit of blue around edges. I went from 8000k HID bulb in headlights to 6000k and immediately realized the huge increase in visibility and whiteness. Remember, the greater the K the less the Lumen ( brightness )

i ripped the tint off of mine
the way the foglights are designed, they glare on top and bottom of the housing
so when it hits the top of the housing it bounces straight down and u see a bright platform of light in front of my car as seen in the pic above, but it also reflects on the bottom of the housing causing the light to bounce up and hit the top of houses.
It also burns my retinas when i took at my fog while standing up outside of the car, but i get a nice big non-glare area in the middle, where field of vision is for oncoming drivers

TSX Projectors with D2S Bulb & yellow lens fogs. If you want the yellow to show, you will need HIDs. The only difference between the pics I've posted is the LED corners.

I had yellow fogs, but they really didnt match my car at all. my 5000k hids do the job in my fogs.

Wow... Speedy, your 1.5 looks incredible. I wish VVME had the yellow kits, but it looks like all they have is 4300, 6000, 8000, 10000, and 12000k. I think 8000 and up would draw unwanted attention from law enforcement, compared to 6000k which I would think looks like the factory HID in some higher end luxury vehicles (including our Solaras' Lexus cousins).

I'm still looking for input on the whole "law enforcement attention" and "ability to pass inspection" with a 4300k vs 6000k.

I'm pretty much set on a 3-way conversion (have to disable DRLs obviously), because somehow I feel like HID lows and halogen highs would feel a little pointless. The only thing is, my car is still under a certified vehicle warranty (until 12/2009 or 100K, I'm at 82K now)... should I stick with halogen for now until the Solara's out of warranty?

<=== Indecisive...

It shouldnt affect your warranty at all, so I wouldnt worry about that.

I have 6000k and havent had an issue with law enforcement, even with the issue of running an HID kit in non-projector headlights, which is usually glare city and a sure way to get a ticket.

Mine are not actually this blue, there was just some strange lighting that day. Fogs are luminics JDM yellows behind two layers of smaked tint film:

Wow... again, sweet. Do the Luminics get drowned out by the HIDs at night? And has your car passed an inspection since the install?

Also, would disabling the DRLs void the warranty?
