Wheel & Tire size question

Please don't bash me for not searching. I did a search and my brain nearly turned to mush (its almost there anyway) from all the results and mathmatical equations in some of the posts.

My question is for gen 1 or 1.5 owners who have put gen 2 17" 5 spoke wheels on their cars. Did you stick with the stock gen 2 tire size (215/55r17) or did you have to change to a different size? If so what size did you go with.

Also, I've heard that spacers may be needed on the rears in order to clear the strut lower spring plate. Is this true and if so, how big of a spacer and can you point me to where to get them?

I got a SWEET deal on a set of wheels ($350 shipped incl. center caps and lugnuts).

Just hoping yall can help a fairly new fellow Solara owner out.

technically, those tires are a bit too big- our size should be 215/50/17, but that extra 5% of 215mm won't cause huge problems- your speedo will just be a bit off and you'll be going a bit faster than it shows


as for spacers, 5mm spacers could be needed for the back, since if I remember correctly, the wheel offset is 50mm
