What has the best looking drop??? (Springs)

Postby zhaden » Thu Apr 03, 2008 1:23 pm

The TRD's springs only drop 1.2", and I've heard the ride on the stock struts is just dandy. Almost stock with less body roll and removing the fender gap, tis all I want. The amount of travel with a mere 1.2" shaved off shouldn't be harsh or jumpy at all. Now if I was, for instance, getting the tein springs you mentioned, it would be awful on stock struts.

I just can't find pictures of it ^.^

tokico, trd struts with tien or trd springs = :D FTMW !!! or CO's

Yeah i agree wit you man.
Do it right the first time, get aftermarket struts when you get lowerin' springs.

Alriiiight, I have heard stock struts suck a few times. Maybe I'll just bite my tongue on this one and save up for all of it.

I started off with a TRD stage 2 Solara before I got my coils. Basically, this setup have stock struts with TRD lowered springs. I will post pics when I get home.

Ideally, you would want to replace the struts when getting lowered springs. I say use the stock struts til they break then replace them with tokicos or coils when you have the money.

I had the stage 2 setup for about 3 years before the rear struts started breaking on me.

It was fine (like a normal car) for me but I had the stage 2 kit put on before I even drove it out the dealership. I don't know what a stock Solara feels like.

thats just a drop. Kinda nasty too since it drops the rear more than the front. HE wants the BEST drop which if its not with coilovers, it has to be the tien springs hands down

Here is my Solara when it had the stock struts with TRD lowered springs. Sorry, the pics are crappy since I only had a 35mm camera back in 1999.

What the hell, here is a old article from Car and Driver about the TRD Solara.

TRD used to sell the parts in combo sorta like McDonald when you buy a value meal.
Stage 1 - body kit and TRD rims only
Stage 2 - Stage 1 and TRD lowered springs
Stage 3 - Stage 2 + TRD struts

People keep informing others that the ride is crappy on stock struts. Some of you all tried it, some of you all didn't. The key is how well were your stuts before the drop?

I hope my posting is somewhere over here..I'm still on stock struts and trd springs. The struts have survived longer than I've expected them to..and moreover, they are still going strong. I did it cus inside I'm still a celica-guy hiding in a solara body. Thats what we 5th genners did and it worked fine. I did it initially to prove a lot of people wrong here. To my amazement, the struts are still going strong. And Yes I do know what blown/worn out struts feel like (the car doesn't bouce like tigger, and does not bottom out). also my drop is decent-its not slammer, but i'm happy with it..

^ Solarablue is lowered on his stock struts and he hasn't had problems yet either.

Anyway you guys have me thinking since the TRD springs have a 1.75" drop in the rear and the teins have a 1.4" drop I wonder if I should swap out my rear springs for some TRD's. Ive never been happy with the drop in the rear of my car with the teins. Maybe a little mix and match can solve that.
