How can I tell if my timing belt and serpentine belt is about to go bad? Any tell tale signs/sounds I should look for?

Between 200 and 500, depending on who does it and if there's a promotion (IIRC I got mine done at 90k for $221). But if you don't hear a high-pitched whine, check for not being able to run the car at all  .

When you say in the serpentine belt, is that the belt actually on the cam gears, or is it the other belt. Or am I just talking out my ass and there is only one belt period? I haven't gone out and checked, just curious.

the timing belt is often called the serpentine belt because it "snakes around"

and other than that, there is also the accessory belt - alternator and a/c

and then the power steering belt

What?

Postby JMSinMaryland » Tue Apr 01, 2008 10:26 pm

I've never heard of the timing belt referred to as a serpentine belt, I've heard the serpentine belt referred to as an accessory drive belt or alternator belt.

Rule of thumb... You do not want to have to wait for signs of a worn belt. Just change it.
