Installing longer hub studs/bolts

I was looking at the Solara manual regarding replacing the hub studs and it looks pretty straight forward until it talked about a special tool needed to remove them. In the book they called it an "SST 09628-10011." Anyone know where I can get this? Do I really need this?

Also, what is the lenght of the stock hub bolt?

I don't feel safe with my current setup right now. 12mm spacer in the rear and the ET lugs are only gripping .3" of the thread.

yeah thats really sketchy. i would order a set of H&R spacers personally, I didnt want to go with any other brand because i trust their suspension components and quality. there kits are all speced to give you the right size studs with the included spacer.

As for the tool, I think the shop just did mine with a press to make it easier. There are a couple of threads out there that say how to do it, I remember reading them in my research a month or two ago.

yeah I was looking into those spacers with built in hub studs but I don't see how those are going to work with my setup.. that and I couldn't find a 12mm version. I don't think I want to go any bigger than 12mm. It would stick out past the fender. right now, it's almost flushed.

I've got H&R spacers on the rear and Ichiba spacers up front...install is very easy, you don't need a special tool. You'll need a jack, hammer, impact gun, at least 5 washers to pull the new stud into position. Here's a link I used:

^ I think thats what he is saying was so easy... My mechanic said the process wasnt difficult as well, and it sounded like he used a similar process to that tutorial.

Whatever you do, don't hammer the studs out with the hub still on the car. You can ruin the hub bearings if you do so. To remove the lugs with the hub still on the car, I used a hub bolt remover.

nope, just follow the tutorial, it's pretty straight forward. And I did use a hammer to pound out the old studs, no problems since then, but if you have access to a hub bolt remover like akora12 recommended, then go for it.

In order to get to the studs you need to remove the hub. You don't need a special tool, just a 10mm bolt that you screw into the hub until it pops, a plastic mallot will also help if the 10mm bolt doesn't do it.

well, I measured my spacers and it turned out to be 14mm thick. So, I went and ordered a H&R 15mm spacer. kinda pricey, but it comes with everything I will need to have peace of mind.
