Solara in the snow

Solara in the snow

Postby chrom3titan » Sat Mar 29, 2008 5:55 am

I just felt the need to mention that for such a car, a solara is a BEAST in the snow. Seriously its a beast in the damn snow. Acceleration is excellent, and its not just because of the tires. I got forenza's on my lara, which is also the same type as my spare in the trunk. But yeah I love this car in the snow, I swear to you it performs better than my jeep on the snow. It handles like a dream! Thank God winter is almost over but I have only gotten stuck once this winter with this baby. This thing out performs any of my buddies cars in the snow. Any snow experience with yall?

I would not say that the Solara is a "beast" in the snow.. I live near Montreal Canada and we got a record snow winter this year.. about 160" of snow falled! So I can say that the Solara is not bad in snow, but just like the other car of this size..my father has a Cadillac Catera and it's running the same way..my step mother an Altima..same thing.

From what I tried and saw..the best is a subaru.. it accelerate so fast in snow..just like in summer.. that's pretty amazing..and guys who bought a subaru show off on lights with them accelaration on snow..you can't beat that. At work we still have 1 "Astro"..it's very very agile on snow..accelarate so fast on snow..wow..I love to ride this old ugly car..doing donnuts in the parking lol.. a great ugly winter truck.

I've been stall in snow about 5 times this winter..the Solara is heavy so if your tire start to do a hole in the ice under the snow when you burn the tire, you will stall there for a while lol.

A great car on snow is a ....Yarris (toyota) ! short and light.. I tried it last winter in my downtown streets and it was pretty fast and agile.. I guess that the fast that it is light is the key.

Solara is a good winter car, with good winter tires it's perfect. The HVAC is giving tonsssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss of heat (new radiator). Im a bit sad that the rear window is always frosting, I need to press on "defrost" each 20 mins or it frost again.

I love how the Solara is quiet..in winter you feel great when it's snowing and you are in warm luxuous car.. almost no sound.. really cool!

yeah doing do-nuts here in buffalo with a lara is sick haha. It controls great while spinning out. Yeah and my lara accelerates even better when its slighty wet out. Everything feels so much smoother, I feel like I'm gliding. We got tons of snow this year here in Buffalo and I drove every day, still only been stuck only once. Lara = above average snow car (of course subara with the awd..)

hahaha I did that this winter here in Canada :D
On reverse the car turn on itself that's pretty cool.
But I like more to drift a bit in a huge parking near my home when I go back home.. nothing too hard on the car..just to have some fun without killing the car :D doing some drift around pole lights lol or on a street corner when nobody is there.

I know that some will say that it's abd for the car and that we should never do this,etc..not false...but 6 months of snow..I must have little fun or I will become crazy lol.

Cool to see that Im not the only silly boy here :D

hopefully you're kidding?

the only downfall of the snow, when the stuff builds in between your tires and body it turns to ice then its a biotch to get out, but I had so much fun this winter, but thank god its gone and say hello to the streets hehe, drifting witha solara = 69x fun

Balding tires + Solara + Any amount of snow= Front end sliding to the right during any acceleration. That clip reminded me... I need new tires!

Yes,one bad thing about having a SOlara in the snow is that you always get dirty ice around the tires and it's nearly impossible to remove it. After a cold night it turn to ice and then each time your suspension move you hear freaking noise and you are afraid to destroy your car.. now I have a loose panel inside the wheel area because of that. Happy that spring is coming!

My lara did ok this winter with the Ohio snow fall but like others have said, having a really good snow tire is usually the most important thing. I had the stock bridgestone turanzas on at the beginning of winter which sucked in the snow and then put new kumho all seasons on which did much better but in heavy snow really werent that effective.
