Gen 1 to Gen 1.5 Guys with upgraded wheels(19's)?

Postby M_ABILLONES » Sat Mar 29, 2008 8:13 am

The wheels that I have in the size of 19x8.5 are available in the 32 offset and 38 offset. I have a set now with the 38 offset but I talked to the company I purchased the wheel and they are willing to swap two of my wheels for a lower offset...

In this case, they will exchange two of my +38 wheels for a pair of +32. So my set up would be +38 in the front & +32 in the rear. Will this work perfectly now? What spacer size should I use (5mm, 10mm, Etc.)?

Thanks,

Mark

if you have a 32 mm offset in the rear, then you wont need spacers- you cant physically go much lower on offset at that point or the wheels will be sticking out of the fenders.

Personally, I would keep all of the wheels at +38 and do a 3mm or maybe a 5mm spacer in the rear with longer studs. It will probably be a lot easier to sell your wheels later if they are all the same offset.

What is the difference between a +32 offset wheel & +38 offset wheel (besides the obvious of course that one is lower than the other)...I have my front & rear fenders rolled aggressively to prevent any rubbing issues...The only reason I'm considering a +32 offset wheel is to have more wheel lip"...but even @ that I don't think +32 offset wheel will not have that much of a difference of a "lip" compare to the +38 ones...

So with a +32 offset wheel I will not need spacers in the back? Will this rub on my struts though? Will this even clear the brake calipers? But in the front I'm going to need a 5mm spacers?

Okay, I dont know if you read the wheel fitment stickies at the top of the page, but you should for sure check them out.

The lower the offset of a wheel, the farther it is going to stick out of/towards the fenders. That being said, a 32mm offset wheel will stick out 6mm farther than a 38mm offset wheel and will also be 6mm farther away from the strut.

The reason an 8.5 wide wheel with a 40mm offset wont work in the rear is it will rub the strut housing. Judging from my experience, a 38mm offset wheel would be very close to rubbing the strut in the rear, which is why a 35mm or lower offset is recommended for the rear.

With an 8.5" wide wheel, I would say stick to an offset between 35 and 30mm. Nothing higher or lower. The front will be fine with a 40-35 mm offset i would think, but I think 40mm or 38mm would be perfect.

H&R makes great spacers that include longer studs, but figure out if you even need any before you go out and buy them.

+38 offset is fine for the front.

I placed a 5mm spacer in my front wheels only to match how much my wheels stick out in the rear.

Front wheel 19"x8.5" +38 Offset with a 5mm spacer

Rear Wheel 19"x8.5" +38 Offset with a 5mm spacer and another 5/16" spacer

Here is a pic of how close the rear wheels are to the struts. This is with the 2 spacers I mentioned above.

^ thanks for the confirmation man, Im just going on what ive done personally- good advice :)

EDIT: So if you have +38 up front with a 5mm spacer, then you actually are running +33 up front correct? I didnt know such a low offset would fit up there, good info.
