Gen 1 to Gen 1.5 Guys with upgraded wheels(19's)?

Postby M_ABILLONES » Tue Mar 25, 2008 7:06 pm

I just purchased a set of Stern ST1 Beast Wheels (19x8.5/+38 Offset) & a set of Vredestien Ultrac Sessanta Tires (235-35-19) for my Gen 1.5 Solara SLE-V6.

Now, the company I bought the wheels recommended that I use a 235-35-19 Tires but after reading a few threads here regarding tire sizes many are opting for the 225 sized tires.

My car is currently dropped using Tein S-Tech Springs, Tokico Struts & F/R Rolled Fenders. Question is, which one will fit me better with NO ISSUES none whatsoever, the 235 or the 225? Do I need spacers & if I do what size?

Any help would be much appreciated!

Thanks,

Mark

225 would be safer because it's narrower.

I think you'll have more problems with rubbing the fender, rather than rubbing the strut (i.e. you probably don't need to worry about spacers.

I am getting my rims installed today.

19"x8.5"
+38 Offset
235/35/19
I have coilovers (JIC FTL-A1) so I am only using 5mm spacers for the back (not sure if this is right. I will find out later.)
roll fenders (most likely will need to get this done)

The previous owner of my rims initially had stock struts and was actually using 2 spacers. a 5mm and another one that is slightly bigger. He expanded the lug holes to accept extended thread lugs for safety. You will need to experiment with different sized spacers to get the fitment you want.

225/35/19 is too skinny. the 235 already have a stretched look. I can't imagine what the 225 will look like on that rim size.

Another tire size I was considering was 245/30/19.. This will cover the width of the rim better but have an extremely low profile sidewall and is more than an inch shorter in overall height when compared to a 235/35/19

I will try to post pics later.

My rims have been installed. It turns out to be a bit tricky in fitting these rims.

Like the previous owner of my rims, I ended up using 2 spacers in the rear. a 5mm and a 5/16" spacer for each of the rear wheels. I also used a 5mm spacer for the 2 fronts.

Here is a pic of how close the rims are to the coilovers (rear wheels). You definately will need to roll the rear fenders.

I don't like the idea of having 2 spacers in one wheel. Maybe add those 2 measurements and get one big spacer. Now I see why the previous owner has expanded the lug holes to accept ET lugs.

But really, each setup is different and you will have to test which spacers will work best. The measurements I posted may or may not work with your setup.

I got the ET lugs and spacers here:

Would a 10mm spacer too big for 19x8.5 with a +38 offset?

my setup is actually bigger than a 10mm spacer. I am guessing my 2 spacers combined is around 11-12mm

youre going to want a +35 offset in the rear with an 8.5" wide wheel, that is pretty much perfect. It gives you a few mm of clearance over the coils and comes pretty flush with the fenders.

I am running 18x8.5 +40 offset wheels with 225/40/18 tires and a 5mm spacer out back, and everything is perfect IMO. We had to roll the fenders because of my drop, and after that it all cmae together perfectly. I have a slight rub up front and would probably rub in the rear if I had passengers, but I never do so it doesnt matter anyway.

Here is a shot of my setup to give you an idea of where everything sits:

I agree. +35 offset is a better fit. less spacers this way.

Well.. at least this is how I understand it?
+38 offset and a 5mm spacer ends up as a +33 offset (front).
+38 offset and a 5mm spacer + 5/16" spacer is around +26 offset (rear).

yeah, I think anything less than a 35 offset in the rear is probably going to stick out...

anything that is 8.5" wide you are going to want to run +35 offest or LOWER. When I had my SSR Professors with 19x8.5 with 235/35 Tires. I had a +37 offset but ran a 5mm spacer in the rear pushing it to +32 offset. I also used Toyo T1-R tires which had a sctreched side wall to not rub.

You will also need to have your fenders rolled or cut. I had my CUT all the way to the edge. You can ask a few member on here that remembers my set-up...

You can run a +30 offset on a 8.5" as long as you have your fenders rolled you shouldn't have any problems. But this also depends on the type of tire you run... althought many tires come in 235/35 series if the side wall is too flat and not curved you will have rubbing issues either way..

Now for the front I would not go anymore more then a +35 offset since the front sticks out farther then the rear. on 8.5" +35 offset is close to perfect...

IMO the best way to run a nice set of wheels on the solara is +30 offset in the rear and +38 in the front and you can slam the sucker to the ground.

Sometimes I wish I still had my solara so I can play around with it...

^^^This would look sick. This would be the best setup for 19"x8.5" rims. You just got to keep in mind that staggered offset means you can't rotate your tires.
