Rotor upgrades

Postby anwagbo3000 » Wed Mar 26, 2008 7:34 pm

I have started my project and have begun to take some of the advice given by PhreakdOut, so I am updating my rotors, both front and rear, and also installing some new brake pads as well to the front and rear.

the website i have so far with some good ones is this:

Front rotors: http://stores.channeladvisor.com/brakes/Items/Item.aspx?SKU=edsf3926%20-%20121.44125&caSKU=edsf3926%20-%20121.44125&caTitle=TOYOTA%20SOLARA%2004-06%20Front%20Drill%20Slot%20Brake%20Rotors

Rear rotors: http://stores.channeladvisor.com/brakes/Items/Item.aspx?sck=7413039&SKU=edsr3926%20-%20121.44126&caSKU=edsr3926%20-%20121.44126&caTitle=TOYOTA%20SOLARA%2004-06%20Rear%20Drill%20Slot%20Brake%20Rotors

Let me know what you think, even you phreakdout, and please let me know where i can get them cheaper or if their are better ones you know of.

My next mod after this will be a good set of tires but before i buy any new tires i will post pics of my current tires with close ups to see if i need new ones, but i know i definitelly need new rotors, unless you go by the "if it works dont fix it method".

i want over all better performance, not just power, but stopping ability as well, let me know guys, later

Mine are almost the same (preminum...for what it means)

http://stores.channeladvisor.com/brakes/Items/Item.aspx?SKU=pdsf3926%20-%20120.44125&caSKU=pdsf3926%20-%20120.44125&caTitle=*PREMIUM%20DISCS*%20TOYOTA%20SOLARA%2004-06%20Front%20Drill%20Slot%20Brake%20Rotors

I find that tend to heat up fast. I don't know if it is the metal quality (what I was afraid of...) I can be wrong also. I know Tacti and Jeff (the pixel painter) have the same as you want to buy.

When I changed my rotor I also upgraded my braking lines to stainless steel line they are more responsive compare to normal rubber braking lines. The rubber tend to inflat a bit before making its job...not the SS lines. I bought it from StopTech and I change the rotors and lines at the sametime myself (not a huge thing itself but I was at this stage of learning I guess). If you have question about it, just ask on here or you can PM me.

whats wrong with regular brembo blanks? Though I'm not sure if they make rears for us....

I have used powerslot's, EBC's and brembo's, and I still think that the Brembo's are the best. Or maybe the EBC's, but they are crazy expensive.

But thats just my opinion. I am not that qualified to answer most of this.

EBC's: GD7223 for the front's.
Brembo's: 25856Click here for EBC link

Philisophicaljt, they do make rear rotors for the solara

And to sebas, what do I need to know about changing my rotors, are the selections that I picked out good quality.

I know that there is a tutorial on here about changing brakes and rotors, but is there anything else I should know, I plan on do the swap myself for both brake pads and rotors.

And how much did it cost for your setup for your brake system, I know you prolly did it yourself.

Everybody get on this thread, opinions please, I don't like buying bad products and I'd ont wanna hurt myself or my car due to bad rotors

more braking power :) fronts only. Rears were never done as a bigger rotor = losing the e-brake since its a drum.

I think the only one that's done a BBK so far on a Gen 2 is Milt.

Too much $$ for me - I've got the same setup as Sebas and they work great though - awesome stopping power and I live on some really fun curvy roads I take hard every day!

Quick seems to refer to some good rotors too

A quicker link to it.

Jeff....don't you have the exact samething anwagbo3000 wants ? They are different a bit from mine...do you see the single slotted line on yours and double on mine. Don't know if they make them more efficient...but it makes them more expensive for sure !! It's probably just for the look...

I think, Jeff with your testamonial, that anwagbo3000 can go for them without any doubts !

What he wants

Alright, I'm gonna give it a little more feedback, I'm gonna check out all the mentioned site and then I will make my decision and let everyone know what I picked

What are some good brake pads to get as well

And sebas, that's an awesome job on the brake lines but do you think I can do something like that being such a noob, would you recommend that I try, my uncle who is a mechanic can do that stuff, but he does not tune cars anymore due to the fact that he says tuners have lost their roots, he stopped about 2 years ago and now he is just a regular mechanic

I could take it somewhere else but how do I learn from that

Changing rotors, pads and SS lines is some basic stuff for a mechanic, doesn't it ?
