My new 01 trd solara

Hey Guys,
I just bought an 01 trd solara that has 40,000 miles on it (Yeah i got lucky). I'm not familiar with all supercharger issues , I basically bought it cause it was a good deal. I use it for commuting to school, nothing else.

My question is: I have been hearing a high pitched "pinging noise" when I drive at high speeds. (I put 91 in so thaths not the issue). The cars has been sitting in a garage for almost a year so i was thinking it might have some carbon in the engine that needs cleaning or maybe a dirty egr valve (but then i took it to a somg test and emmisions were extremly low, so maybe it's not it). Does anyone have any suggestions ar has had a similar problem? Other than that the car drives great. Please let me know what you think!

I have no idea, I didn't test it. Does it have anything to do with the potential problem or is it a general question?

Are you sure your not hearing the SC's winding up? They do get louder the higher you go up the rpm's and the harder you smash the pedal.

Not trying to be a d*ck here but you did say your not familiar with SC's.

Well thing is I've had it for a couple of days and i haven't really floored it... just regular driving and sometimes I hear a high pitch ringing at lower speeds as well.

the high pitch ringing can very well likely be the Supercharger whine just like everyone else has mentioned, perhaps you could get a decent sound byte for us???

if it happens around 3300rpm's and up... I'm gonna guess your talking about the SC wind.

But a sound bite with the hood open and the camera by the engine and then one insaide the cabin... where ever it sounds louder.

Also you might want to youtube some solara dyno runs and compare the sounds.

Hey guys,
I noticed this morning that wil idling it has the same hi pitched ringing. SO i'm guessing it's not the sc winds. Shopuld I just seafoam it? I mean the car hasn't been driving for almost a year. Could it be that there's alot of carbon and other stuff inside that is causing the ringing?

if its doing it when youre idling it might be one of the belts... have them checked out.
