These are my results. Odometer reads 123k, but I do know the guy I bought it from put in a used engine. God knows how many miles it has but the timing belt cover says the timing belt was last replaced in 1998 when it had 80,000 miles. I know--something doesnt add up but oh well here are the pics. I'm personally pleased. What do you guys think?

Yup... opened my valve cover at 73k and there was sludge ALL OVER. Yours look squeaky clean. You should consider yourself lucky. :P

Just out of curiosity how does the engine oil sitting from the bottom of the engine get tossed up there to keep everything lubed?

there is a pump that brings oil to the top of your engine from your oil pan. Oil than trickles down to the oil pan again.

Ah thanks for the answer. Is the inlet where the yellow ring is in the first pic?

yeah, that looks extremely clean! I am afraid to open mine, lol. I see enough when I open the oil cap and see nothing but black sludgish stuff. :-?

Hey JackCallun don't worry that's exactly what mine has when I open the oil cap. I heard because oil puddles there, that that crust builds up but its nothing to worry about.

Do you know what the engine came out of? I just realized since the Solara was made in 1999 and it says the belt was changed in 1998 at 80k. So that must mean the motor came out of something besides a Solara?

Thanks... just curious
