congratulations on your new mod!!
a short ram intake has its downfall, but also has its advantages!!
so there are 3 intake set ups we normally see (correct me if needed, you gear heads)
1) OEM- a very restrictive box with twists and bends to minimize noise and brings in air from relatively close to under the car
2) SRI(Short ram intake) basically a ram-air intake, and short because it's pretty short

but because the filter is so close to the engine, which is EXTREMELY HOT because of the COMBUSTION going on, it always heats up the air near the intake, which means the airflow is quite high in temperature. Because the engine burns better with more AIR, and since hotter air is less DENSE (molecules moving around creating more space in between), hotter air does not BURN as well as cooler air. In a sense, why castro would say you're losing power is because the OEM intake actually blocks off the ram-air quite efficiently, but of course, does not provide that GROWL you love so much. the advantage for SRI intakes is that because the air intake is so much shorter, air reaches the engine a lot quicker, so THROTTLE RESPONSE is IMPROVED, but overall power up top is compromised...
3) CAI (Cold air intake)
this is the setup that has an extended tube that puts the filter all the way down behind the driver's side foglight, where air flow is free and most importantly, COLDER (relative to the ram-air) COLDER air means air that is more DENSE, which combusts A LOT BETTER than RAM AIR, which means a more efficient engine making MORE POWER, but as you probably already figured out, the THROTTLE RESPONSE is COMPROMISED due to the length of the intake tube itself.
basically, if you just do city driving, SRI is the way to go, but if you really care about power UP TOP, for high speed driving, or racing purposes, CAI is the way to go...
of course, there's this other way that has to do with a big metal thing up front that cools the air hooked up to a FAN, which is connected to the exhaust fume pipe......

THAT'S ANOTHER STORY ALTOGETHER...
hope that answers your question!
God bless
