Headlight projectors?

Headlight projectors?

Postby chrom3titan » Tue Feb 26, 2008 5:41 pm

well I got my HID's on which look SICK! but the lighting pattern is messed up. Are there any tutorials or info that can help me balance out my light beams? Because its really weird its like theres a dark spot on my left headlight. Thanks

PS: Its snowing right now and I went out for a drive, because light works really nice on the snow, anyways on the ground my light pattern looks funny. Like the concentration is all messed up because my two beams dont look the same. I also want to aim it higher

The dark spot(s) is from the fact that you're using the HID in a housing that's not meant for HID, therefore the light pattern will not be the same as it would be for a car originally equipped with HIDs.

You pretty much have to deal with it or do a projector retrofit.

Also, you should be aiming the HIDs DOWN, not up because you'll be blinding the hell out of people.

well that spot on the ground I was telling yall about has been there since the silverstar super brights I used to have in. I just installed my fogs today and they look perfect; also my right headlight is fine its just my left one!

btw thanks for the search, I search every time before I post, thats why I havnt made like 69,000 threads lol. but no offense the search on sg is fubar, literally almost always 100% off par for me, thanks for the link though dude

kits are always gonna have hot spots and worsened output, because of the optics of the OEM HALOGEN reflector housing wasn't meant for the placement and intensity of the HID bulb, which has a NODE instead of a FILAMENT

HID KITS are a lot cheaper than a projector retrofit, but you get what you pay for...

from under $200 KITS, to
retrofits that are at least $700

Not sure if this matters, but the op didn't really say if he had the projector headlights or not.

1. This output from my camry is a bit off but you get the jist( the driver side connection to the bulb was off so it made that arc look).

2. Here is the spread shot with no black spots...

It only leads me to believe there might be something wrong with the projector bowl, or he is running a reflector headlight.

well for example notice the first TSX picture, mine is sort of like that but on the left side of the beam there are dark spots. I noticed theres a little thing in the headlight that sits right in front of the bulb, I assume thats to reflect it to the reflectors, but that is a little crooked. Should I just open my headlight and sort it out? Or maybe just get new headlights? That s2000 projector is nasty, it would look better on a nicer car though, eew civic.

I'm using AP1 S2k...again the cut off is really skewed in those pictures. That was when i first did the retro and things were not adjusted correctly.

The cut off on that civic looks kind of high if you ask me and only is brighter than mine because of the over exposure on the camera. From what you said i am still a bit confused...you said there was something sitting in front of the bulb but still has a reflector? All low beam projectors have something sitting in front of the bulb, and they are shields to produce either the DOT or ECE cut-off. The only reflector in a projector is the bowl itself and can not be seen unless taken apart. You stated you had a reflector...so i'm guessing you are using a HID kit with a rebased bulb, right? Ive heard of some people bending the shield you speak of in order to achieve a safer dispersion of light.
