TWM Short shifter = HEAVEN!

I installed the bushings today and Im not that happy with it......way too stiff when sliding the shifter over to get to 1st or 2nd gear.
It's gonna take some getting used to for sure!
..........Now I think the weighted shift knob would be a good idea.

lol NOW you think that a weighted shifter would be a good idea...

but yeah...the bushings along with the short shifter makes the shifting a bit tough...especially 1st and 2nd...but by the same token, I would never go back to stock in either sense since it feels like mush then and you can't even tell what gear you're in.


for me, unfortunately, I did my swap late in summer, so by the time that I had broken in my clutch and could drive my car hard, summer was pretty much over and I had to leave my car at home to come to nyc for school. so, I'm kind of ashamed to say when I push my car hard, especially if I intend to boost through first gear, sometimes I can't shift fast enough from 1st to 2nd and have to take my foot of the gas to keep myself from hitting the rev limiter lol


and hey...I just realized that you were in brooklyn...where do you live? I'm in brooklyn heights (or cobble hill)

even if I wanted to go back to OEM I cant.....the smaller bushing(the rear one) was basically rusted on to the pin, so it got destroyed in the process....
Toyota doesnt sell the bushings without the whole friggin cable
.....Im might just "spring" for the Greddy knob to help with the stiffness.

I know this is not the place, but is there nothing for a 2nd gen 2AZ-FE? Was there anything for the 1-1.5 Gen 2AZ-FE that might fit ours? What could a 2ng Gen owner do?

I would presume that you could use any scion tc marketed bushings since the tranny/engine is the same

do you know if the shifters are the same as well?

BTW, I just ordered the Greddy counter-weight shift knob....$29.20 + $12 shipping



The only thing is I dont care to much for the shift pattern inserts, but for that price, you cant go wrong!

Im nervous to try them out.....unfortunately, our shifter base is made of plastic. I feel that there should be a bit of "give" to avoid any breakage.......besides, I dont think you would feel the difference all that much.

BTW....I got my GReddy weighted shifter in the mail today....friggin' SWEET!!!....I love this thing!! In fact I re-installed the Speed-Source brass bushings and all is good. The knob counteracts the stiff feeling in the side-to-side action.
Im really happy with the set-up, the shifts feel way more positive!!

and fesco bob -> I have the base bushings as well, and I don't know if they make a real difference though, since I installed all of mine at once

what is for sure though, is that you feel vibrations through your shifter from the chassis

as for the shifter being plastic, that's not a problem. if you take a look at the design and thickness of the base, there's no way to break the shifter

what about the 1/4 clutch slave extention did you have that install too.
